On Saturday night, September 15, Rosalie Gerut and Friends will be presenting a concert at Congregation Kerem Shalom, in Concord, MA. Rosalie is our Chazan, sings at many other Temples in the Boston area, and is a well known professional musician in her own right. She has written the score for two films and wrote the score for the first production of Joseph Papp's Jewish Theatre. Her concert, which comprises a wide range of Yiddish and Hebrew contemporary and traditional folk music, is for the benefit of the Kerem Shalom Relocation Fund, which is now supporting a Soviet family which recently emigrated from the Soviet Union. Tickets are 10.00 and 30.00 (the latter included reserved seating and a pre-concert reception). Call me at 508-263-2236 or send me mail at AKOV12::Israelite for more information. Larry I.

It has been a well kept secret (at least for me). Is there any general info that can be shared? I live in Sudbury. Thanks, Carl
966.2 | The opening of this Temple was announced in this notes file | DECSIM::GROSS | The bug stops here | Wed Aug 22 1990 19:00 | 15 |
The synagogue in Concord opened about 1 year ago. In fact, a notice about it appeared in Bagels. The building is just off route 2 on the north side, approximately mid way between the intersection of route 62 and the Concord rotary. The congregation is a few years older than their building. I haven't been inside, but it looks lovely from the outside. I only know 2 things about this synagogue. It is Reform and it is the only known congregation whose dues are higher than the dues at Beth El in Sudbury. If you would like more information about congregations in the Sudbury area, let us know or try searching this notes file. They exist in Sudbury (2), Wayland, Marlborough, Acton, Concord, and Framingham, to mention just the adjacent communities. Dave

Keren Shalom is not Reform. It is a liberal, non-affiliated congregation whose members range from somewhat traditional to somewhat non-traditional. The Jewish community in Concord is not large enought to support multiple congregations, so they have attempted to be somewhat eclectic in their approach. It is also the reason that they have avoided formal affiliation. The Rabbi, Michael Lukens, was trained at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. Aaron

I had a feeling I was supplying misinformation in that regard. Sorry about that. Dave |
