PLO: The Beach Action - Our Right To Oppose the Occupation
[Reprinted without permission from "Ha'aretz", 26 June 1990 ...
translation from Hebrew is my responsibility]
The PLO declared yesterday that "the beach action" which was
undertaken by Abu el-Abass'es Front, "bases itself on the natural
right of the Palestinian people to oppose the occupation". In an
announcement which was publicized yesterday in Kuwait, by the
organization and members of the Palestine National Committee, it was
said that "this right is defended by resolutions of the UN". In
parallel, an aide of Arafat and a member of the PLO directors, Haani
el-Hassan [sp?], said that the organization would be meeting Arab
foreign ministers in two days' time in Tunis to decide on taking
effective action against the US and Israel, and "drafting all of the
Palestinians from all places in Palestine to drag [best translation
I have...] back to the areas which were occupied in 1948." The
announcement which was made public in Kuwait called on Israeli Arabs
to aid in the "walking in upright" [hard to translate; the sense is
"walking proud to take our land"].
[Note that "the areas which were occupied in 1948", according to the
PLO, include all of Israel today.]
