903.0. "Torah Codes and Torah Online" by SICKO::WOLF () Thu Mar 08 1990 20:41
I am adding a note to this conference on the subject of the Torah
online, rather than replying to a similar previous note, so that
it would get more visibility.
Yes, I do have the Torah online at my home. In fact, I have the
entire Tenach on 5-1/4" diskettes. The 5 Books of Moses use about
464,000 bytes of disk space, and the whole Tenach requires a couple
of megs.
The main reason why I obtained a copy of the Torah on disk was to
write Torah Codes programs. That is, we were interested in finding
hidden messages in the Torah for analysis and to prove that G-d
wrote the Torah. The programs work incredibly well, and the results
have been fascinating.
One such Torah Codes program (and the most popular) is called Equal
Jumps. Given a search word, the Equal Jumps program attempts to
find the letters in the search word spelled out at equal intervals
(or jumps). For instance, you might find Hertzl (in Hebrew, of
course) spelled out every 36 letters in a certain section of the
Torah. Perhaps, also, zion and Abraham are each found with different
jumps (intervals) in the same section of text. The results are
often uncanny.
Another Torah codes program is called MWS (multiple-word search).
Given a list of search words, MWS finds any instance wherein
all the search words are found within so many words of each other.
For example, you may want to find an instance where Hertzl,
Abraham, and Zion are found within a 50-word block of text.
In addition, I've written several different Gematria programs
and a Bible concordance.
Let me know if you have any use for these programs or any results
of running similar programs yourself.

| Hi Brian!
I'm very interested in these programs. How about some more infos?
For ex. is it possible to run these programs on a PC...if the later...
which one (POS/MS DOS...?). If they run on a VAX only...is it possible
to get a copy?
Cheers,
Dom Keller

| RE: 903.1
Lots of folks have been asking about the Torah Codes programs.
So, here's some more particulars:
I've written over a dozen programs that do a lot of different types
of searches. They range from an Equal Jumps program, to a concordance,
to a Fibonacci search. All of the programs were developed (and
now reside on) a 286 AT-compatible machine running MS-DOS. Some
of the programs were written in Turbo Pascal 4.0, and the rest were
written in MicroSoft FORTRAN. The Pascal programs generally use
some screen-handling/graphics and a few Turbo built-in data structures
(such as STRINGS), but otherwise can be translated to VAX Pascal
if necessary. The Fortran programs are almost entirely standard,
except for INCLUDE statements which have a slightly different syntax.
