| Davka Software in Chicago (check the note on Synagogue Management
Software for their address/phone#) sells a Mac Tanakh published by
Zondervan complete with vowels and accents, fonts and all kinds of
searches. The price is somewhere between 200 and 500 dollars (my
memory is hazy).

| I posted the request for Online Torah to Usenet (soc.culture.jewish).
No replies, but two mail messages asking for copies of whatever I find.
By the way, I do not have access to a Mac or IBM PC compatible. Just
VAX/VMS and Ultrix.
Any more ideas?

number of on-line bibles.
I have the complete King James Bible on disk somewhere.

Yeah, but King James ain't the Torah. I doubt if "most any Macintosh magazine"
would advertise a Hebrew Bible, or even a Jewish translation.

I agree with Gerald, "King James" isn't the Torah. But it does serve to show
that an English translation on-line is reasonable. I also have a copy of "King
James" for the DECwindows bookreader (which I picked up off the net).
If I really want to read, I take my JPS translation off of the shelf.

| The KJV is in the public domain. So everybody can sell it. So's the
Torah, of course, but it's a bit harder to handle on an American PC...
Other, better translations tend to be copyrighted.

| Not only is the King James translation inaccurate in some places, but
it simply is not the Torah in its original language. Hebrew
is a rather poetic language, and a lot is lost in translation,
particularly idioms and infered speech.
