Miami Beach, Fla.(UPI)-- Rabbi cards are the latest collecting rage
among young scholars at Miami Beach Hebrew schools, rivaling
baseball cards in popularity.

Similar to baseball cards, the 4-by-6 inch rabbi cards feature color
photos of revered Orthodox rabbis on one side and basic religous
statistics, in Hebrew and English, on the other.

Among students at Yeshiva Elementary School, Rav Yisroel
Abuchatzeirah, or "Babi Sali" as the children call him, is the Don
Mattingly of rabbi cards.

He "made many very good miracles happen," explained Shmuely Selmar,
10, who rates the rabbi card with his prized Mattingly baseball
card.

Abuchatzeirah is one of 111 Jewish leaders featured on rabbi cards
manuafactured by Torah Personalities Inc. of Baltimore. Other
smaller, black-and-white rabbi cards are also on the market but the
color cards seem to be the most popular, store owners said Tuesday.

Teachers and administrators use the cards as rewards for students
who recite their prayers well or excel in schoolwork.

I wonder if Steinbrenner would consider a trade :-)

My son and his friends "collected" these cards...
I think they are quite goofy, and as far as I
know the kids with the most cards were not
necessarily any more religious, learned, or
ethical than the kids with less-- so I doubt
whether collecting the cards had any positive
effect!
