My kashrut story.
 
Many years ago, when I was quite young, my family was going to
fly from NJ to Florida to visit my grandmother.  It was a Friday
morning flight and we expected to be in Miami by noon, so we
didn't order any food on the plane.  After all, everyone knows
how bad airline food is and Kosher airline food is even worse.
We also expect to have plenty of time to get from the airport to
my grandmother's house before Shabbat.
 
Apparently there was a major storm over Washington DC and no
flights were being allowed to fly through it.  We sat on the
runway at Newark airport for hours.  They would not go back to
the terminal and would not let us off the plane.  As morning
turned to afternoon, they did promise to call Florida for us to
let my undoubtedly worried grandmother know that we were all OK
but would be late.  (As it turns out, they never called.)
 
The flight was mostly empty.  In addition to my parents, myself
and my two brothers, there were a couple of military types.  When
the flight attendants (in those days they were called
`stewardesses') brought out the free drinks, our military
copassengers began their flight without the airplane.
 
When lunch rolled around, we were hungry, but there were no
Kosher meals for us.  I don't even think it was a meal flight, so
when they came around with the sandwiches (ham and cheese), we,
or course, turned them down.
 
A couple hours after turning down the sandwiches, the flight
attendant came back to use with a special message.  She had
called the Archdiocese in NY and gotten a special dispensation
from the cardinal of New York allowing us to eat meat on Friday.

    They passed on dinner cause they thought they would be in New York by
    7:30!
