818.0. "Job tips in Israel?" by DSSDEV::MOR () Wed Nov 01 1989 13:27

Shalom.
My brother is planning to make Aliyah in about 1/2 a year. He is
making a trip to Israel in a month to look around for a job and an
apartment. I would like to help him out in any way I can, and since I
know that there is a DEC located in Israel, I thought I would ask around.

So... Does anyone have any connections in Israel? My brother is a very
intelligent and talented person. He has a computer engineering degree
from Cornell University, and is interested in finding a job in the computer
software/hardware area. He may also consider going into sales. He speaks
Hebrew fluently.

If anyone can give me some names and phone numbers, I would greatly
appreciate it. If you have any non DEC connections, that would also
be great. Please send mail to DSSDEV::MOR.

		Thank you,
		   Rafi Mor

The non-DEC direction may be the only way, as DEC Israel is tight as a drum
(although I haven't checked lately). Also just because he may be an American
with a C.S. degree cannot guarantee a job as there are MANY qualified
candidates within the country.

I believe that we had a discussion on this in an earlier note.

I have already replied to Rafi by MAIL, but have to agree with David that
there are NO guarantees. It depends on the individual's experience,
education, perseverence, and a lot of luck. I know people who have
"fallen" into excellent jobs by being in the right place at the right
time, and other well qualified people who have had one bad job after
another.

Try everything, including DEC. It is true that there are many well
qualified candidates locally, but a specific background may be just
what an employer is looking for. When making aliyah it is important to
be flexible, and be prepared to accept a job which may not be exactly
what you have dreamed about, but with an eye to future development.

re: .2

Baruch, you are correct in your reply. Certainly we cannot discount the odd
opportunity that may come up, i.e., an employer's discretion, etc. I guess
that I was just trying to inject a dose of reality into the topic (as usual).
As I stated in a much-earlier note, it would be nice if someone from the
ISO personnel org. would enter a note containing the present employment
situation, both present and future.

Shabbat Shalom,
David
818.4Computer job websites for Israel?UNTADE::TOWERSWed Jul 03 1996 13:4712
Does anybody have information about Web sites, internet email lists etc.
for computer jobs in Israel similar to www.jobserve.com in Europe?

My position is that I'm married to an Israeli, we have an appartment in
Herzeliya which is rented until October 1997 and my contract here in
Munich finishes at the end of September this year. Our original plan was
that I should work in Europe until our tenants move out, but we could be
tempted to move early. In the meantime I'd like to see what the prospects
    are like.

    Cheers,
    Brian

The best place for job lists is the cji mailing list on jer1.co.il. The
web page can be found at http://www.jr.co.il/cji. Before interviewing,
I STRONGLY advise you to sit down with somebody in the field inorder to
get an idea of all the terms, and what they mean. (More money or less
    money).

    Thanks Yaacov,

Is there something similar for contract (ie freelance) workers?

    Cheers,
    Brian
