808.0. "The Promised Land" by SKIMAN::NASS () Thu Oct 19 1989 17:38

Politics and Religion:

In my opinion a race, that uses their religion to claim a
property or force other race to adopt to their way of life is wrong.
Forcing the Jews in Moroca to become Muslims is WRONG, note .17

Also, confiscating a whole country from the Palestinians, in the
name of the "Promised Land taught by Judaism" leaving millions of
Palestinians as refugees is WRONG.

Palestinians, Christians and Muslims are rejecting the occupation
not based on religion but rather on realestate, ( most Palestinians
are refugees as a result of 1948 war, once upon a time these
people owned land and houses !!!, where did their homes and land
go ?? to the ones who say: it's our PROMISED LAND)

In my opinion the Jews are immigrating to Israel, ruling,
governing and building settlements in West Bank based on purely
religious believes, prior to the year 19xx, Jews were 5% of the
total population.

REALESTATE AND POLITICS: SHOULD NEVER MIX WITH RELIGION

When the above got mixed the Palestinians lost everything !

The problem MAY have had its roots in religion, but that is no
longer a major factor. The dispute today is solely an issue of
real estate and national (not religious) pride. We both want to
rule the same piece of land. We are currently the rulers. We are
not about to go away and we don't trust the other side to "do the
   right thing".

If you want to think in these terms you have a real rat hole.

What signifies 19xx as a significant year?

Do you believe that all refugees throughout history have a right to
go back and claim their house/land, and that this right also belongs to
all of their decendents? If this is true there must be very few people
today that can be sure that there is no prior claim on their
    house/land!!

Do you also think that the Jews lost everything when they were exiled
    from the land?

>Palestinians, Christians and Muslims are rejecting the occupation
>not based on religion but rather on realestate,

Do you think that the Christian and Muslim conquests of the land
    were based on realestate?

I think that if you wish to find solutions then to be constructive
you have to look at todays situation for the ordinary people.
Maybe if there was no politics there would soon be no problem!

I'm trying to understand .0, and not having much luck.

Are you talking about the Arabs in Israel, the occupied territories,
Lebanon, Jordan, or Syria? Biblical Palestine covers a lot of ground,
as to people who have a claim on Jerusalem.

Do you take issue with the partitioning of Palestine by the UN? What
should they have done with it?

Are you familiar with the events of the 1948 war, such as who attacked
whom, and why some of the Arabs in Israel left their houses? Are you
suggesting Israel should have acted differently in that war?

You mention the West Bank, but not the 1967 war. How should Israel
    have reacted under those circumstances?

And I don't see any suggestion of a solution - all I get from your
message is a vague "Something is wrong".
