693.0. "Them good ol' Moderates" by MOSSAD::GREG (I'd rather be home in Hawaii...) Mon May 08 1989 08:36

Seems the good old Iranians have done it again. Just goes to show you just
can't trust these "moderates".
Headline news featured some Rafsanjani or other asking for the murder of
Americans or Brits since us Israelis are "too difficult" to kill in retaliation
for Palestinians getting killed in the West Bank. Outrageous, people can't even
throw gasoline bombs anymore without getting injured or killed. Simply
shocking, what happended to clean old fun? Taking out your sligshot or piece of
roof building and dropping it on your favorite cop or national guardsperson?
We can't let these "moderates" get away with this. Clearly the only thing now
is to support the "hardliners" and show the former that we're not only relying
on them right? On the other hand, using them as a Field Test site for SDI would
seem like an ideal location...

Hi Greg,

Maybe its the NEW moderates that you should be
focusing on. The old ones, not you or your node
seem to have an answer for.

	Happy Holidays to you too.

693.4Democratic?SUTRA::LEHKYI'm phlegmatic, and that's cool.Wed May 10 1989 03:198
For that matter, I just learned that Israel has expelled all
journalists from the OT's and have declared them to be under curfew.

    Very moderate, too, indeed.

Let me put it that way: as much as I like criticism and sarcasm,
and it is well justified in the case of Iran, for many reasons,
as much I do dislike this criticism when it is single-eyed.

You is comparing THAT to the open invitation to murder?

> Very moderate, too, indeed.
I would like to point out that the British kept the press entirely in the dark
during the WHOLE of the Faklands campaign and all governments have kept the
press out when it suited their needs. What is NOT common, however Mr. Lehky, is
that a government officially incites to the murder of innocent people. Furthermore, I
was especially amused, as I'm sure you must be, by the fact that Americans and
British citizens were singled out because "we" (not YOU Mr Lehky) seem to be
too "difficult" (read "dangerous") to kill. If the Western democracies had more
b*lls, maybe them Good Ol' Moderates would not have dared to pick on these two
nationalities. I can also remind you that when terrorists kidnapped some
Russians in Beirut, the KGB identified and killed one of the relatives of the
terrorists, the result being that the Russian was released and they were not
bothered again TO THIS DATE!
B*lls, Mr. Lehky, is what seems to be missing from a lot of democracies these
days.

Your principles are an ever guiding light to manking...
693.6Do I smell a personal attack?SUTRA::LEHKYI'm phlegmatic, and that's cool.Thu May 11 1989 04:247
What's this "Mr. Lehky" rubbish and the emotional explosion all about?
I'd prefer to have a discussion taking place in a tone appropriate for
adults, and, moreover, colleagues. Keep your balls for a real fight,
and keep them out of a public notesfile.

If your intent is to show me wrong, believe me, there's other ways
to do it, and examples can be found in this notesfile.

In case you didn't get the my 1st paragraph:
Are you comparing the closure of the West Bank to inciting murder?

Para 2. The powers that be have closed off areas to the press whenever it suited their
purposes. Examples can be furnished on request

Other issues, concern the fact that if the world democracies would show a little more
b*lls, a lot of what we are seeing today in terms of terrorist attacks and threats
such as those issued by the latest quack in Iran would not make headline news (his
obituary would perhaps).

No personal attack, Lehky...
693.8No comparison intendedSUTRA::LEHKYI'm phlegmatic, and that's cool.Thu May 11 1989 12:166
But of course, I'm NOT comparing. I love the ayatollah as much as
a bullet in my head. What makes me so sorry is that one of the idols
of my youth, i.e. Israel, is getting more and more dark spots on
    the white shirt.

    From today's NY Times:

"The Iranian Speaker of Parliament, Hojatolislam Rafsanjani, today
withdrew his call for Palestinans to kill Westernser, saying his
    remarks had been distorted.

"I really do not advise this and consider it a weak point," the
Teheran radio quoted him as saying about his statement Friday
urging Palestinians to kill five Westerners for every Arab killed
    by Israeli troops.

"...what he meant was that Israeli oppression of Palestinians could
    lead to violence."
     ---

Seems he's got it turned around. It is closer to the truth to say
that Palestinian violence could lead to Israeli oppression.

693.10What are we talking about?HPSTEK::SIMONCuriosier and curiosier...Thu May 11 1989 19:419
My understanding is that we have separate notes for separate subjects.
The .0 was on a subject ... see above. What does it have to do
with Israel's "spots on the shirt"? However if Mr. Lehky prefers
to discuss both subjects here, in this note, I can legitimately
start discussing killings of Beirut population by the Sirians.
Or the Soviet anti-Semitism. Or something else. I do not want
    to be single-sided either.

In case it wasn't clear enough: I'm withdrawing my initial reply.

    Better?
