If you're thinking of using the Patriot's Day (Monday, Apr 17) holiday (Massachusetts only, sorry) to do your Passover shopping, don't forget that the Boston Marathon will block access to parts of Brookline during the day. The marathon course goes down Beacon Street from Cleveland Circle through Coolidge Corner to Kenmore Square. The first wheelchair runners will reach Coolidge Corner at around 12:25, but the streets will will be blocked off earlier. Your best bet to reach the grocery stores on Harvard St. is to drive from the North (Rt 2 to Storrow Drive or the Mass Pike to Allston), then go down North Harvard St. past Commonwealth Ave and park, say, in the Purity Supreme lot across the street from Levine's Funeral Home. We were planning to go on Monday, but chickened out and went on Sunday instead. The Butchery was, as we expecte, packed. But with two people, one to push the cart and one to run around, pick up stuff, and put it in the cart, we were able to get almost everything we needed. Except that they were out of Shmira Matzoh! They said that they give it to the local rabbis free, and that the rabbis cleaned them out. Oh well... Paul |
