| I haven't seen any for years, but I wasn't looking.
I suggest going to used book stores. Many also carry records.
There are also many used records stores around the country.
Look in catalogues from places like Publishers Central Bureau.
Hope this helps.

I have one of the albums at home, but I don't know what kind of
shape it's in; I think I remember something about my Dad leaving
it on the dashboard of his car one wonderfully sunny day. Want
me to check it out for you? Mark - where are you located? If it's
in the "greater Maynard area" and the record isn't wrecked, you
are certainly welcome to borrow it for taping...

| I have seen Allan Sherman records at the local "Strawberries" as recently as
a year ago (haven't looked lately so they are probably still there).

| Allan Sherman has always been a favorite of mine. I have three of his albums
at home: "My Son the Folksinger", "My Son the Celebrity" and "My Son the Nut".
Back in junior high school, our entire class memorized some of his songs.
To this day, I can still repeat a few stretches of them...
"Shake hands with your uncle Max, mine boy, and here is your sister Shirl,
And here is your cousin Isabel, that's Irving's oldest girl,
And you remember the Tischman twins, Jerold and Jerome,
We all came out to greet you back and wish you welcome home.
Meeeet Merowitz, Berowitz, Handelman, Shandelman, Sperber and Gerber
and Steiner and Stone; Moskowitz, Liebowitz, Aaronson, Berns, Kleinman and
Feinman and Friedman and Cohen; Solowitz, Rolowitz, Teitelbaum, Mandelbaum,
Levin, Levinsky, Levine and Le Vine; Grumberger, Schlumberger, Minkus and
Pincus and Stein with an EI and Styne with a Y...
Shake hands with your uncle Sol, mine boy, and here is your brother Sid,
And here is your cousin Yetta who expects another kid..."

| Two of my favorites come from the group of short songs that were part
of each of his albums (if memory serves):
Do not make a skimpy sandwich
Pile the coldcuts high
Customers should see salami coming through the rye!
I know a man his name is Lang
And he has a neon sign
And Mr. Lang is very old
So they call it Old Lang's Sign!
Then of course there was "Hungarian Goulash" only part of which I
remember:
See the Mau-Mau's
Underneath the jungle sky
Jolly Mau-Mau's - eating missionary pie!
Borscht is what they're eating in the Sov-yet
Wait I think we've got some on the stove yet
Wienerschnitzel Austrian or German
Kindly pass the sauerbraten Herman!
Finally who could forget "Harv and Sheila" (again only part of which
I remember):
Sheila's a girl I know at BBD&O
She works the PBX and makes out the checks
Harvey's a CPA he works at IBM
He went to MIT and got his PHD
Then one day that Harvey took the elevator
Sheila got in two floors later
<drawing a blank on this line>
Everyone heard Sheila calling
Ring the bell but they fell
Harv and Sheila fell in love!
Ah, the good old days!

| (From Dave Srebnick -- using TIME_MAINT today while BAGELS::SREBNICK
is down)
Reply to .4, the rest of the song...
It begins:
I sell a line of plastics and I travel on the road
And I have a case of samples which, believe me, is a load
Every night a strange cafe, a strange hotel and then
Early in the morning I am on the road again
When the season's over and my lonesome journey ends
That's the only time I see my family and my friends
I drive up Ocean Parkway, and before I stop the car
My Mom leans out the window and she hollers, "Heeeerrre Weee Aaaaare."
And the end:
(...who expects another kid)
Whenever you're on the road, my boy, wherever you may roam
We'll all be here when you come back to wish you "Waaalllcome home!"

As for your original question:
I remember going to a rather large record store in New York City that
sold older, out of print, records. Unfortunately I can't remember the
name of it. It was either in Greenwich Village, or up in the theatre
district. They sold old (used) copies of those records. I'm sure
that they are long out of print. You'll have to get taped copies
from collectors like me.

Possibly Dayton Records, 12th and Broadway (across from the Strand Bookstore)?

| This discussion inspired me to go out and purchase an Allan Sherman tape this
past weekend. The bad news is I got the last copy in the store. My family has
been having a great time with this tape ("Hello Mudda, Hello Fadda..."). The
kids say it's "awesome". Thanks for reminding me to go get it before it's
too late.

| I was going to rummage through the bowels of the basement this
weekend to find my two AS albums, but found something better to
do. But I still recall well the words to Molly Malone, sung to
the tune of the original ("Alive Alive-o"):
She wheels her wheelbarrow
Through streets that are narrow;
Her barrow is narrow, her hips are too wide;
So wherever she wheels it,
The neighborhood feels it,
Her girdle keeps scraping the homes on each side.
No in Dublin Fair City,
Where girls are so pretty,
Mine Molly stands out 'cause she weighs 18 stone;
I don't mind her fat .... but(t),
It's not only that .... but(t),
She's cockeyed and musclebound, Molly Malone.

Maybe it was Tower Records in the Village. They have the BEST
selection of oldies/new recordings in the city.
And wow, did this topic bring back memories....I remember being
upstate at my Grandparents house, and performing "hello Mudda" to
all my relatives....talk about a captive audience!!
Thanks for bring back some fond thoughts!

625.11 | I found the Allan Sherman records | BAGELS::SREBNICK | Bad pblm now? Wait 'til we solve it! | Mon Feb 06 1989 13:24 | 19 |
| Re: .6
I found the record store that has Allan Sherman records. It's:
Colony Record and Tape Center
1619 Broadway (corner of 49th Street)
New York, NY 10019
(212) 265-2050
(212) 265-1260
They're open daily and Sunday 10:00am - 1:00am. The card says "We
Mail Everywhere."
I actually saw two Allan Sherman records there. One was "My Son
the Celebrity," and the name of the other escapes me. They were
$30 and $25 respectively.
They do records, cassettes, CDs, sheet music, and "theatrical
souvenirs" (whatever they are). Good luck.

| Thanks for all the comments on the original note. I too remember
entertaining (boring?) my parents and visitors with my "renditions"
of Allan Sherman songs.
A little trivia: I think "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah" was the only
Allan Sherman single to hit number one in the top 40 charts.
Feel free to correct me on this one.
Again thanks....

| I dug out some Allan Sherman records at my Folks' house (I am
clearing out their estate). All are in the original jackets &

Can any of you give me a clue as to the value of the following

My Son, The Nut Warner #1501 1963
My Son, The Surf Nut Capitol #T1939 (no sleeve/1 smudge)
My Son, The Folksinger Warner #1475 1962
My Son, The Celebrity Warner #1487 1963
Alan Sherman-Live! (Hoping You Are The Same) Warner #1649 (no date)
Togetherness Warner #1684 (no date)
Peter & the Commissar (Allan Sherman/Boston Pops/Arthur Fiedler
Conducting Allan Sherman's New Highly Hilarious Composition)
RCA Victor Red Seal #LSC-2773 1964
Many thanks,
