Well, Chanukah is almost (REALLY) here again... I am really upset :), as I am no longer a student, my temple at home did not send me my yearly recipe for latkas (sp). Does anyone have a good recipe, I am going to a house warming party this weekend and would like to bring a bunch. Also, where can I pick up chocalate Chanukah Gelt? I am going somewhere for Christmas and thought I could use it as a stocking stuffer:). Any other suggestions about what I could bring to thank this family for having me over? Thanks in advance, Amy

You can definitely get gelt at the Israel Bookstore in Brookline. You may even be able to get it at Quill and Press, who have an assortment of Chanukah paper, dreidles, etc (in Acton on Rt 27). Waky

(4 servings) Grate 2 medium or one large potato on the large holes of your grater. Add chopped onion, salt, pepper, paprika and/or cayenne to taste. Add 1 slightly beaten egg. Add matzoh meal to correct the consistency. You will probably need to add more as you cook the latkes because the mixture gets runny. Fry in 1/4 inch of light cooking oil. Serve warm with applesauce.

Try them with a little sugar sprinkled on them or... with sour cream. ---Av |
