567.0. "Butchers...where? how? when?" by MANTIS::PINCK (Amy Pinck, DTN=223-4335, Long Live Duck) Fri Oct 21 1988 16:25

    Hello again,

Can anyone help me find a Butcher? I went to the
one in Framingham (I live in Natick) but it was well...

What are the other Butchers around here like?
Where are they...(My trips to Long Island
are getting further apart and there is only
so much I can take from my mother's freezer :)

Newton:

    Star Kosher Meats
    Beacon Street near Walnut
They kasher the meats, the quality is OK

Brookline:

    Shafran's
Harvard Street (in the middle of the jewish shops)
Very good quality, open late thursday
They kasher poultry and ground meat

    The Butcherie
    Across the street from Shafran's
It's really a kosher supermarket. They kasher everything.
Generally we prefer Shafran's except for veal.
They also have a good deli counter

There is a branch of The Butcherie in Cobs Corner (Sharon), except
that they do not kasher anything. I am not sure that you would
find it more convenient than going into Brookline, but IF you
happen to be going south from Natick anyway on Rt 27, it is
easy to get to. Also there is a "Kosher" bakery in the same
shopping area. (It is Kosher but not Shomer Shabbat.)

    American Kosher

    THEY DELIVER!!!

American Kosher supplies the BEST meat in the Boston area. They
also carry Glatt Kosher meat. Ruben's gets all their meat from
    American Kosher.

We live in Marlboro and use the butcher in Framingham (Hurwitz
I believe). He is a little more expensive then places like the
Butchrie in Brookline, but on the otherhand, out 2-year old
doesn't travel well, so Framingham is quite a bit closer for my
    wife to travel.

You mean there is actually a place more expensive than the butcherie??
Heck, NY prices are better than the butcherie. On the positive side
they do carry a wide range of products and stay open late on Thursday.

Of course they are! There's a heck of a lot more competition in Brooklyn
than in Brookline.

We buy our meat in bulk on our occasional trips to NY. I know people in
Brookline/Brighton who have their meat shipped in from Superior Butchers
in Detroit. In frum circles in Brookline/Brighton, the joke is that in
Boston you ship in your meat and ship out your kids (to yeshivas).
