| Dominique,
Although I don't have any particular `D'-name suggestions for you,
I do have a reference that you might find helpful:
"The Complete Dictionary of English and Hebrew First Names",
by Rabbi Alfred J. Kolatch. (c) 1984.
Library of Congress (LC) number 82-23454
ISBN 0-8246-0295-1.
If you cannot find it locally, you might be able to order it from
the publisher:
The Jonathan David Company
68-22 Eliot Avenue
Middle Village, NY 11379, U.S.A.
I believe the price is $19.95 (hardcover) -
plus shipping and handling (I think that is $1.00).
Shalom,
Jeff

| My mom had to pick a "D" for my sister when she was born and although
she didn't like "DANA" she did like "DAYNA" and used that. My sister
is pleased as well...she likes the different spelling...my mother
said that had she thought about if further she said that she might
have used "DYAN" as in "DIANE" or "DIANA".
My personal favorite for a boy is Daniel, or David.

| I know you felt there are enough kids with the name David, but how
about DAVIDA(pronounced DAVEEDA) for a girl. I named my oldest daughter
Tsviya Davida (after my wife's father and my father's oldest brother).
Good luck.

"ILAN" in Hebrew is a tree (the other more common Hebrew word is "ETZ").
"ILAN" is also a very popular and modern name for a boy. From this came
the popular name "ILANA" for a girl, and later came "ILANIT". In spite
of the fact that in pure Hebrew "ILANIT" is some kind of a ...frog, the
name is somewhat used (even if "ILANA" is more common). There is even
a famous (woman) singer in Israel called "ILANIT".
Now, as for names starting with "D" (the first few I can now remember,
including modern/popular names of today in Israel):
For boys: Dror (freedom), Doron (gift), Dan (nicknamed ...Danny)
For girsl: Dalia, Dafna (flowers), Dorit (I think it's derived from Doron)

| Although quite common, I have never minded sharing my name with others. It is
also easy to spell in Hebrew.

| As mentioned in .5 -
DROR [==liberty] is quite a handy name.
I've been using it for more then 26 years and it never failed me !
Its origin is in the Bible : 'Va'yikra DROR le'col ha'arets...'
BTW, although Dror is a boy's name it could be used for girls also.
I've met a couple of girls named Dror and I think it's quite unique.
