    Took the words right out of my mouth, Avi. Did you want to hear
    first names or last names?

    Shalom,

    I was looking for first = surnames - not for last = family names.
    So do you have some further proposals???

525.7Surname = Family nameMARVIN::SILVERMANThu Aug 25 1988 08:235
 Just to clear this up -

 "Chambers 20th Century Dictionary" defines 'surname' as
 'family name'.

While we're on the subject...

Anyone know the feminine for Yitzhak? If there isn't one, what would be
the closest? My neice is expecting her first child next spring, and
wants to use my father's name. If it's a boy, no problem, but somehow I
can't see Yitzhaka?!!

Regards,
Joan

    Not to forget the most obvious:

    	Ysrael

    that is if you prefer to transliterate ' (yod) as Y instead of I.
525.12Some modern onesTAV02::NITSANOne side will make you largerSat Aug 27 1988 16:0413
    Most of the names in the previous replies represent 'traditional'
    Jewish names. I would like to introduce some more *modern* Hebrew
    names more common currently for new boys and girls in Israel
    (altough some of them may have long history):

    For boys: Yaron, Yair, Yuval, Yaniv

    For girls: Yael, Yafit, Yardena, Yonit

    For both: Yarden (= Jordan. my neighbor just had a baby girl
                       named "Yarden")

525.13Another modern onesTAV02::BARSun Aug 28 1988 09:3213
    Why not:

    for boys:	Yakov (!)
              	Ygal
    	      	Ytai
    	      	Yochai

    for girls:  Yocheved (Yochee)

    Both:	Yona
