519.0. "Please Help" by 50684::DKELLER () Wed Aug 17 1988 06:44

Shalom

I would be interessed in a definition of the name " YORAM ".

Is there somebody who has an explanation for that name???

Furthermore I'm interested in a bumper (in Hebrew) for my car -
it would be nice to get an adress where I can order such a bumper
(with "I love Israel" or something like that on it). Thanks for
your help.

Cheers

    Shalom Dominique,

    I will check the name in at home tonight.

    Gavriel

    P.S. What is your node name? I tried pulling it from ANCHOR, which
    is supposed to be the repository of the latest names, and 50684 (49.508)
    didn't have a name listed.
519.2Don't be a YoramTAVIS::SIDWed Aug 17 1988 12:2911
Yoram, or more properly, Yehoram, means "God is Exalted", and was
the name of a king of Judea (see I Kings 22:51).

Unfortunately (for people with this name) it has a connotation
in modern Israel of klutz, stupid, etc., to the point where one
might respond to a stupid action with "Don't be a Yoram". This
despite the fact that there is a popular singer and several politicians
with this name. I don't know how this happens to a name, but it does
in all languages. So if you plan to move to Israel, don't give
your kid the name Yoram.
Hope this answers the question.

Shalom Gavriel,

thanks a lot for your help. Now to your question concerning my
node name, its FRAISX::DKELLER - hope this answer your question.

I guess the best thing to do is to look for another surname with "Y" -
do you have some proposals? Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Dominique

519.4REPLY not WRITEIAGO::SCHOELLERDick (Gavriel ben Avraham) SchoellerThu Aug 18 1988 09:019
Shalom Dominique,

You should try to use REPLY rather than WRITE.

Your system manager better do his/her job! ANCHOR and IAGO
both list FRAISX as 49.282 (50458) not 49.508 (50684). This means
that the node name and address were not properly registered.

519.5-<"answer" is correct - some more questions >-50684::DKELLERThu Aug 18 1988 09:3121

    Shalom Gavriel,

    Meanwhile I found out that I need to typ 'answer' to add another
    point to my note...but thanks for your soon reply.

    So I'm still hoping to get some proposals for surnames starting
    with "Y" - I prefere modern actual Hebrew names.

    Another question: Is there someone who is able to translate
    Dominique in Hebrew? Another surname of mine is: Shaun - is
    there any explanation for that? I really would like to know if
    one of these surnames has any meaning in Hebrew - if not I
    guess its because my family isn't very religious.

    Furthermore I will contact my system manager and let him know
    about wrong registration of node FRAISX.

    Cheers

519.649.282 <-> 49.50850684::DKELLERThu Aug 18 1988 09:5113

    Shalom Gavriel,

    just talked to my system manager about FRAISX. Correct is: 49.282
    is listed as FRAISX - but this node is presently (til mid of next
    week) unreachable; 49.282 replaces 49.508 - so presently we have
    the possibility to use 49.508 instead of 49.282 - as soon as the
    new node 49.282 is reachable 49.508 will be disconnected from the
    net.

    Hope that helps.
