I would appreciate some help re: aged parents (they are 78 and 79 years). My parents lived in Miami for 19 years until a series of setbacks necessitated moving them up here to Massachusetts. Dad was in a nursing home for nine months - but for the past 4 months has been in the apartment with my mother. Therein lies the problem....they are in an apartment. They need to be in the company of other people preferably Jewish people. Twice a week my mother attends the JCC's afternoon activities. Dad chooses not to go at this time - which surprises us since he's the more sociable of the two. We're sure he'll go again. They are doing nothing but sitting and watching television - Dad reads his westerns - once in a while they go to a movie - of course, my brothers and I take them shopping. An uncle was in a retiree hotel in Florida. We weren't very impressed with it j- but he was content. I'm wondering if any of you know of such a place here in New England - or can recommend a nice hotel/home with primarily Jewish people in Florida. Before you ask - they are on the list for subsidized housing in Framingham and Natick - but there are only one or two places that are worthwhile and have some Jewish tenants. They have been on the list for the Golda Meir House in Newton for the past two years and though they are near the top of the list - it will be at least another year before an apartment will come up. They definitely cannot afford the apartment complex in Westborough - they do not have $100K. Any ideas anyone? Trudy

There are a few Jewish senior citizen housing facilities in the area, including two very nice ones in my old Brighton neighborhood. I don't know too much about the Framingham area, though. Why not touch base with the Jewish community referral service (handles various issues, probably including housing) at 1-800-CHAI-104 ? fred |
