463.0. "Russian immigrant needs a job" by DECSIM::GROSS (David Gross) Mon May 02 1988 15:17
Last Friday night, at Temple Beth El in Sudbury Ma., I had the pleasure of
meeting a family of "refusniks" who have arrived here last month. The father
is Michael Gold, an electrical engineer. Naturally, I wondered if I could help
him find a job, especially with DEC. He worked in a semiconductor plant doing
electrical tests on the final product until the govt. decided a Jew in that
position would be a security risk. Afterwards, he did field installation of
electrical equipment (transformers?). If any Bagels reader can help locating
a suitable position, I would be pleased to pass along the information.
This family, father/mother/son, has been applying for permission to emigrate
for 10 years. Their English was very good for persons who are so recently
arrived. The son has just completed his duty with the Russian army and had
been accepted at a Russian medical school. The father told me that the Russian
government has recently relaxed the restrictions on Jews entering college in
order to defuse the Jewish protest somewhat.

I would suggest that you post his resume and a brief explanation
of his situation to OASS::JOBS (KP7/SELECT, etc). You could also
keep an eye out there for appropriate job offerings (don't give
the postings to him - send the manager his resume).
