Where are the Jewish neighborhood in Mass. these days? Working in Littleton makes Brighton/Brookline too far to commute (I used to...) and most of Newton is no closer and far too pricey. The Sharon area, besides being very distasteful for other reasons (too suburban-moderne), is way out of the way. And we want to stay near Boston, not Woostah or the other outbacks. (Civilization ends at Rt. 128, you know.) I see a significant Jewish population in Lexington and some in Belmont, both of which are convenient to DECsites but very expensive. Are there any other "Jewish neighborhoods" (not necessarily a majority, just a noticeable percentage) in the area? Where you don't need to be a VP to afford to buy a house? fred

What about Lowell---just hop on 495 and your at work. The homes are less expensive, and they have a day school. Contact Don Fienberg about it. He moved there this past year. ---Av

Arlington is sandwiched between Belmont and Lexington and has lower prices than either. There are at least three synagogs within a 5 mile radius of my house in Arlington Heights (one is withing 3 miles). Martin.

Framingham [though very crowded and long commute to LKG]. Parts of Marlboro [commute North on 495]. Acton has a small community.
385.4 | Consider Chelmsford or Lowell | ERLANG::ARTSY | Tue Dec 15 1987 10:50 | 14
We just moved to the area (from Wisc) and faced the same question. We currently live in Chelmsford, which has nice Jewish community. We attend Temple Beth El in Lowell, which has a large young and old membership community. They have many activities, including Sunday school for children. There is nearby an Orthodox Synagouge which offers also full-day school, nursery, and kindergarten. You can buy a house in Lowell very cheaply, but most of its neighbourhoods are not highly recommended. Consider Highlands if you want Lowell. Chelmsford is more expensive but nicer as well. Both are convenient to LKG commuters (around 10-12 minutes on 4+495) if you need more info, call me at 226-7324 Shaike |
