| Yes, I grew up in Dorchester, on Hansborough Street. My family and
I moved to Milton in May 1955, right after my Bar Mitzvah.
I sure remember all the place you mentioned. So how come you
didn't mention the New Yorker cafe, Twin Pharmacy, Cutler's
Pool hall?
I now live in Sharon.

SIMCO'S
Did someone mention SIMCO's by the Bridge.
My wife think I am nuts when I always compare onion rings to their's,
or at least I remember them.
It's been 25 years since I rode my bike from Pierce Jr High in Milton
to SIMCO's for a dog and rings and then back to Milton for Hebrew
School. Is SIMCO's still there?
My maternal grandparents lived in Dorchester, and when I visited
them on weekends I my Zadie would bring me to the G&G and The Brown
Derby.
My paternal grandparents lived in Chelsea. Chelsea still produces
much of the 'non New York style' bagles and is the home of the SELECT
FACTORY. By the way SELECT is the largest lox producer in the world.
I have even found the SELECT brand in Israel.
Chelsea (30 years ago) had one of the largest percentage jewish population
outside of Isreal. Then it was over 50% Jewish, Today It is less
than 25%. Currently, Sharon, Ma. ,where I live, Is according to
one study, is inexcess of 65% of 'Jewish background'. What Sharon
lacks Is a goor G&G deli where the old men could talk Yedish and
the Young boys would go to listen.

If you look at my reply in .1, it looks like we've traveled the
same path. My father is a Chelsea boy, and I still have a couple
of aunts/uncles and cousins living there. My mother is from the
West End (where Charles River Park is now).
I graduated Milton High School, class of '59. My first wife was
a Milton girl. Her maiden name was Karen Shatz, MHS class of '62.
Simco's was still there 2 years ago, when I stopped by on my
motorcycle for a "nosch". My ex brother-in-law used to work
there when he was a kid. His name is Ken Weiner and he also
lives in Sharon.
You're right about Simco's onion rings; they also had great
fried clams (I know, I know - traif).
Oh, G_d, I love playing this Jewish geography. There's also another
Sharonite in my building - PKO3. His name is Burt Cusner.

| This is wild. My father's side of the family is from Dorchester.
They're from Erie St. I remember going there as a child; also
remember the G & G, Cutler's, Simco's, and the "WALL" at the field.
Based on the responses to this note, maybe we should start a note
of all those Bagel noters from Sharon. I lived there from the
time I was 5, until I got married. My folks still live there.

| I was born on Wellington Hill St. (near the Solomon Lewenburg) and
moved out of there when I was 8 in 1958. I remember going to schul
near Fessenden St. I also remember going to the G&G and Simco's.
Hy's Drug Store at the bottom of Wellington Hill St. and Blue Hill
Ave. used to get my business for toys. My parents moved there in
the early 40's.
