329.1 | Ok, I'll do it | FSLENG::CHERSON | Pinheads on the loose | Mon Jul 20 1987 15:00 | 11 |
| Great idea, only we could have done it on better by all meeting
in Jerusalem.
Ok I'll take on the organizing/coordinating responsibilities. Now
all I have to do is find a kosher gourmet restaurant for a dinner
location, why there must be dozens located in the greater Boston
area! no? Seriously if anybody has ideas of where, when, etc. get
back to me over the net (FSLENG:: or NONODE::), I'll take ideas
and check them out.

| As a followup to the basenote and my reply, could all you baglers
that will be attending DECworld list yourselves (name, DTN, E-Net,
etc.)?
I'll extract them, and use the file as a distribution list.

ps everyone put your badge number in because then you can send mail
via the Guest Services system at decworld which may or may not key
off on badge numbers instead of names.

| I belive I will be at Decworld, at least some of the time. We are
announcing our product there.

Since other programs, such as ELF also key off badge numbers, is
it a good idea to put them in a notesfile?

veg/dairy and the chef, Andrew, has come up with some great dishes.
I'll be at DECWorld and would like to help make the Bagels-IG come

329.8 | DECWorld 87 | CURIE::GOLD | Jack E. Gold, MRO3 | Thu Jul 23 1987 18:25 | 34 |
| Nitsan
To keep it brief, DECWorld is Digital's corporate equivalent of
a very large trade show. We will have all of our systems displayed
there and there will be literally hundreds of applications running
on them. We have not only our software, but software from our
cooperative marketing partners and other third parties. Last DECWorld,
about 40,000 people came, all by invitation only. This year, they
are expecting over 60,000.
Attendees at DECWorld consist of customers and sales people from
around the world who come to see our capabilities. As I said, They
can see massive amounts of hardware and applications software all
in one location, and all working and networked together. People
come to DECWorld by invitation only, and the local sales people
determine who should be getting the invitations.
This years theme for DECWorld is "The Network At Work". It will
feature applications running under environments such as factory
floor, engineering, office automation, etc.
If you are at all interested in coming, you had better make reservation
immediately. There is a severe shortage of hotel rooms in Boston
for this event. In fact, Digital is bringing in two ocean liners,
the Queen Elizabeth II and the Oceanic, to serve as extra hotel
and meeting facilities.
The actual show is being held at the Northeast Trade center in Boston.
Additional meeting will take place at the various hotels in the
area.
I hope this answers some of your questions about DECWorld.

329.11 | Housing in Brookline for DECcies | ABACUS::GRAFF | | Sun Jul 26 1987 15:39 | 16 |
| I'd like to attend also.
I like in Brookline, two blocks from a trolley station which will
take you to DECworld via public transportation, and easy walking
from various shuls and Jewish food emporia.
I have two single rooms on the third floor of my house which I
could make available to DECcies in town for DECworld. There's
a bathroom up there to share, with tub and shower.
House is kosher-style, not full kosher.
Let me know if you'd like Brookline accommodations.

| I'm working at DecWorld and live in Brookline. (I guess they won't
let me stay on the QE-II.) I wish I can host a get-together but
no space.
As far as Koshor Resturants go, there arn't many. I do know of
Cafe Shalom and Rubin's, both in Brookline and just blocks apart
from each other. So what's the problem with setting a time at one
of these places, and calling for reservations for 600. Rubin's
is closed on Mondays but maybe, they'll do something for such an
event.
As far as taking the 'T' to DecWorld, the closest stop is South Station
(Red Line) and then quit a long walk, probably about 1.5 miles.
There may be a bus from South Station to the World Trade Center
but I don't know the schedules. I did hear a rumor that shuttle
service (by DEC) is being offered from LOGAN to the WTC, so if you
want to take the Blue line to LOGAN, etc.

Visitors to DECworld (and other interesting people) would be most
welcome. (I don't keep kosher, by the way.)
I live in Arlington, which is reasonably accessable by bus (from
Harvard Square.) Send mail to me for details.

| I will probably not be going to DECWORLD but would still be interested
in an "International Bagelers Meeting" since I live in beautiful
MetroWest.
For those attending DECWORLD and interested in more convenient kosher
eating, there is a dairy restaurant, The Milk Street Cafe, in downtown
Boston. It is at the corner of Milk St. and Devonshire St. They serve
delicious veggie sandwiches, daily special entrees and some baked
deserts. They are, unfortunately only open business hours. They also
have another restaurant of the same name in Cambridge (I am not sure of
the address). I think it is open longer hours.

329.17 | Dinner in Brookline? | MAY20::MINOW | Je suis Marxist, tendance Groucho | Tue Aug 11 1987 23:44 | 8 |
| in .15, I invited visitors to a picnic. Some off-line correspondance
suggested that visitors who keep kosher would feel uncomfortable
at my non-kosher home. The correspondant suggested we all get
together at one of the local restaurants. This would be fine by me.

| Addendum to .16
The Milk Street Cafe is 10-15 minute walk from Trade Center
For those of you who observe the Conservative p'sak concerning eating
fish in restaurants (ie: fish with fins and scales are kosher when
cooked and served in a non-kosher restaurant), the Trade Center is
in the middle of the Boston water front and is surrounded by many
good to very good restaurants specializing in seafood.

Martin? You invited some people to your house with
the generosity of your heart and some people won't accept
because you don't keep Kosher?
I'm sorry, but I find that rude and obnoxious. This may be
a sore spot with me for various reasons but people who refuse
to go into someone's house because they don't keep kosher ...
|
329.20 | | GRECO::FRYDMAN | | Wed Aug 12 1987 15:32 | 12 |
| I'm not certain that Martin wrote that people refused to come into
his house. He wrote that some people felt that others might feel
uncomfortable. ^^^^^^
I would have no problems... I'd bring my own food--- which sometimes
makes the host/ess uncomfortable (unless they are close friends).
It does make sense to have the get-together somewhere where everyone
can comfortably eat. Cafe Shalom would certainly fit.

329.24 | now let's say something | FSLENG::CHERSON | uh-uh-uh, Don't touch that dial! | Thu Aug 27 1987 09:47 | 13 |
| Ok, I'll say something. It looks as though meeting at Cafe' Shalom
seems to be the logical choice, at least that's the feeling I got
from previous replies. It's up to me to make contact with them
and reserve at least 20 seats (20-30 is what I estimate), but I'm
going to have to have give them a date. So....I need to get
everybody's suggestion for a day. This should be interesting, getting
a consensus via this notesfile.
DECworld(somehow that name makes me think of something like "Carpet
City"!) runs between Sept. 8 - 18. I'll leap in first, I vote for
Thursday, the 11th.

my message of last week. I need to know by tomorrow at the latest what people
would like to order for dinner on Thursday at Cafe Shalom. The choices again
are:
Grilled Salmon - $14.95
Broiled Schrod - $ 8.95
Stir-fried veggies - $ 6.95
