287.0. "A special appeal" by ULTRA::OFSEVIT (Sold stock at 105...sigh) Tue Mar 31 1987 10:26

I recently received the enclosed letter from Temple Reyim in
Newton, where I am a member. I am sure that other congregations
have similar funds, and there is also a fund set up in Westwood
    for Temple Beth David.

For people from outside the Boston area, a suspect has already
been arrested and charged for arson. It is not clear how large
a factor anti-Semitism is in this case; but if it is not a factor,
then why a temple? In any case, for now the most important thing
is to insure that they are able to rebuild quickly. Insurance will
only pay about half the cost. They lost at least 3 Sefer Torahs
(Sefers Torah?) which were buried about a week ago; one was from
the collection in Prague that the Nazis had collected during the
    Holocaust.

         Dear Member,

As you undoubtedly know, Temple Beth David in Westwood
was recently set afire and burned. The Congregation
is determined to rebuild but they will need a great
deal of financial help from the rest of the Greater
         Boston Jewish Community.

We are sure that you would like to be a part of our
Temple's effort to assist our sister Congregation
in Westwood. We suggest you send your contribution
in Chai or multiples thereof made out to Temple Reyim
and earmark it for this special purpose.

We hope that you will respond generously and share
         in this Mitzvah.

         				Sincerely,
