285.1 | Rubin's Kosher Deli | LATEXS::MINOW | I need a vacation | Fri Mar 20 1987 20:32 | 7 |
| Rubin's Deli is located at 500 Harvard Ave. in Brookline. About 1 block
south of the corner of Comm. Ave. and Harvard Ave. The MBTA Green line
(B line) trolley stops at Harvard Ave. Telephone is 737-8787.
The food is general Deli food, with a couple of hot dishes. Quite good.

| Harvard-Radcliffe Hillel maintains a kosher dining room. Call them
at (617) 495-4696 for details. They're located at 74 Mt. Auburn

| Cafe Shalom is also on Harvard St. They serve fish & dairy.
I'm not sure of the exact address but it's a few blocks up from
Rubins. It's on the same block as the Israel Book Store and Bread
& Circus.
I think that the food at Rubin's is quite good. Every once in a
while I try Cafe Shalom in order to see if I like it better - I don't.

| I think this topic is a repeat.
ALso note the Milk St. Cafe, which serves lunch but not dinner,
at Kendall Sq. in Cambridge and downtown Boston.
The Delitizer in Newton is kosher, but not Glatt. Both meat and
dairy, but paper plates, separate sinks, etc. (At least that's
how the Brookline store worked; I don't think that one is still
around.)

285.5 | not supervised | VINO::WEINER | Sam | Tue Mar 24 1987 11:49 | 12 |
| The Delitizer in Newton is the only one (of three at one time) still
around. Another thing to note in case it is important to you or
your friend is that Delitizer is NOT supervised.
If you ask for butter with the bread for your roast brisket dinner,
they will cheerfully provide it. What they will not do is make a
Rueben for you. They will provide cheese on a seperate plate if you
want such a thing.
They have a statement of their philosophy of kashrut at the back
of the menu. If you want a copy, send me your name and mailstop.

| Any of you noters know what happened to the Delitizer that used
to be on Rt 30 in Framingham? Some time back my wife and I were
going to Shoppers World and figured we stop at the Delitizer for
some Jewish Soul-food, when to our great displeasure it had become
Cafe mumble-mumble!!!!! (we live in Marlboro so Kosher deli is hard
to find w/o venturing east of 128!!!

As a Framingham resident - I can tell you that the Delitizer had
a "mysterious" fire quite some time ago. I don't think you'll find
a kosher restaurant before Newton. The Deli at Shoppers' World
is "Jewish style" and definitely not kosher. I can't help you
re: kosher deli towards Worcester - but I believe Langley Deli in
Newton still exists (it's closer than Harvard Street, Brookline).

| Last time I looked, Langley Deli in Newton Centre was replaced by
something else. I don't remember what.

| Langley was never kosher that I recall. It is now some sort of
chicken place.
If you are going that far, you might as well go to Delitizer.
In the other direction, there is a kosher chinese take out place
(Ruth's Kitchen) on Pleasant St. in Worcester. I don't remember
their having any deli stuff from the one time I was there but they
might.
re .-1: Its nice to see that someone knows how to spell Newton
Centre.

| re .9
Ruth's Kitchen, run by Ruth Kagen, doesn't carry any deli. That's how
they get around the glatt problem. They are however, under rabbinical
supervision.
I wouldn't call Ruth's a Chinese style restaurant even though they have
a large selection of egg rolls etc. You can get a whole barbecued
chicken or just some old fashioned potato salad. If you go there, keep
in mind that it's take out only.

285.11 | Langley's is Le Chick, but still a deli | VIDEO::OSMAN | type video::user$7:[osman]eric.six | Wed Apr 01 1987 16:02 | 12 |
| Langley Deli in Newton Center (note the spelling!) was replaced by
another deli called
Le Chick
Although you can get chicken, it's still basically a deli. Not kosher,
but still a nice breakfast place.
You can get things like coffee, bagels, lox, cream cheese, eggeys,
and usually a New York Times that previous man left on the chair.

285.13 | Bobbing for felafels? | IAGO::SCHOELLER | Help! | !pleH | Mon Aug 31 1987 12:32 | 8 |
| Salam Sultan,
In general I can recommend Sabra. Their food is good. The portions
are ample. I think that their felafel is not so good as Mi Vami but
that is personal taste. Since they are not kosher I haven't tried
their meat dishes but my wife recommends them.
