283.0. "Synagogues around Basingstoke UK ?" by COMICS::MENDELSOHN (Greg Mendelsohn DTN (7)833 3565) Mon Mar 16 1987 07:54

    Dear all,

    Does anybody know what Reform Synagogues there are around Basingstoke,
    England. If there no Reform Synagogues around here then any information
    regarding any local Synagogues would be appreciated.

    The reason for my inquiry is not so that I may go every week (gasp) but
    so that I can take my future intended (a non-Jew) to a service to show
    her "whats it's like". I would prefer a Reform Synagogue for two
    reasons, (1) thats what I was brought up as and (2) I think it would be
    less of a culture shock for a non-Jew.

    Thanks,

    Greg Mendelsohn	Basingstoke, UK.

283.1Shuls in the Reading areaIOSG::LEVYALL-IN-1 QA BloodhoundMon Mar 16 1987 08:4510
    There is a very active Reform Shul in Maidenhead. It's run by
    Rabbi Romain and his wife. There are some very friendly people
    there (some in your position) and I'm sure they'll make you welcome.

    In Reading town centre there is also an Orthordox Shul in Goldsmith Road.
    Rev Schichel is the head. It's run on traditional but informal grounds.
    Worth a visit as well.
