221.0. "Democracy and Judaism?" by IOSG::LEVY () Tue Oct 28 1986 04:24
Hi,
I was talking to some friends and the question came up
of what qualities are needed to make a good Prime Minister.
A few ideas were put forward such as someone who is old and wise,
not self appointed, not dotty (but difficult to tell), not from a
particular party... Plato's name was mentioned as someone who had
a lot of ideas in this area.
I thought it would be a good idea for this note to discuss the
relative merits of different approaches to Government/community
rule and leadership, and also discuss what the Jewish ideas are on
this matter.
Maybe someone could start off by explaining the role of the Sanhedran
and how it could work or fit in todays political structure. It would
also be interesting to know if Democracy contradicts Jewish ideas.
