173.0. "Polish Jews" by MTBLUE::SPECTOR_DAVI () Thu Aug 14 1986 08:56

	National Geographics -  September, 1986

	Article: Remnants: The Last Jews of Poland

	This very sad article was done by a Polish husband and wife team
and tells the story of several elderly Jews who are among the 5000 remaining
out of a prewar population of 3 1/2 million.

	As depressing as it is I would encourage people not to miss it.

	btw: there seems to be an increase in Israeli and Polish cultural
exchanges. This is probably some of the groundwork and positioning in regard
to the current Russian overtures to Israel. There also are Polish student
groups that are starting to search out and study Polish Jewish literature and
plays. Most of them have never met any Jews.
