| According to Jewish tradition, the world was created 5745 years
ago. The Jewish calender counts the year not from the birth of
Jesus, but from the date of the creation of the world.

I've been searching for days for a little pamphlet which had a great
chart of chronological events, but alas I had to make do with
"A History of the Jews" by Solomon Grayzel and do a bit of research.
1) an approximate timeline of hebrew years and Julian years.
(for a sense of perspective on the dates we are dealing with)
~3700 bce ~2700 ~1.7 1.3 1.0 .5 0 .25 1241 now
|------------|-------|-----|---|----|---|--|----------|--------|
0 1000 2000 2400 2700 3759 \4000 5000 5745
1) patriarchs - ~ 1800-2000 Hebrew Calender
~ 1800 bce (middle Bronze Age)
2) Moses & Torah - ~2500 Hebrew C.
~1300 bce
3) David & Solomon - ~1000 bce | 2700 hebrew c.
4) Second Temple - 500 bce | 3500 hebrew c
5) Destruction of Second Temple
& Codification of the Talmud
to final form - 70 CE - 210 CE
Up until this point the talmud was an oral tradition finally
codified by Rabbi Judah the Prince. The dietary laws were established
in the Torah and expanded in the talmud but other works
such as the Shulchan Aruch (Code of Jewish Laws) were 1500ce.
6) Maimonadies - 1000 - 1100 Ce
I hope this isn't too heavy but Jewish history is one of my
main interests.
