| Well Roger, there's always the popular(maybe not in this country)name
Gila. I can't think of others right now, but that's a start.

| My Hebrew name is "Gevorah", which means "strong" (same as my English
name, Charlotte, means). I'll look up some more tonight, if I get
a chance. Personally, I wouldn't saddle an American child with
an unusual name like Gevorah unless you live in a very religious
community (my sister-in-law named her daughter Rina Batya, but where
she lives that won't be unusual...).

| I'm not looking for an overly religious name.
My 5-1/2 year old daughter's English name is Kira (Hebrew is Yakira).
I really believe that it is pretty, easy to spell and actually simple.
My wish is to find something equally as good.
Thank you.

155.4 | Will she have the gift of gab? | WHICH::DIAMOND | | Tue Jul 08 1986 16:32 | 6 |
| I've always liked Gabriela. I'm not sure of the implications of
the name, but it sounds nice. I've known a couple Israelis with
this name. The nickname, Gabby, can be a little demeaning though.
Good luck and congradulations!

| Some more choices:
Gita (From Yiddish for Good)
Geulah (Redemption)
Gilah (Happiness)
Gevira (Strength)
Gali (Ocean Waves)
Hope these help.

155.6 | Different versions of same names | RANI::HOFFMAN | | Wed Jul 09 1986 20:39 | 6 |
|
Galya or Galit (wave) is, I think, more dignified than Gali...
Gavriella (Hebrew version of Gabrielle) has more panache...

| When she is a teenager you will be saying the following:
God, why don't you clean up your room.
God, get off the phone.
God, are you still eating.

155.8 | some more... | CADSYS::RICHARDSON | | Thu Jul 10 1986 19:11 | 11 |
| How about:
Golda or Goldie (gold)
Geula (redemption)
Gevirah (kingly)
Gabriela (G-d is my strength)
Gila (joy)
Gada (happy/lucky)
Gafna (vine)
Galit (hill, mound, wave)
Ganit or Ganice (garden)

155.9 | and more... | DSSDEV::DAVISON | | Thu Jul 10 1986 19:49 | 4 |
| How about Giselle or Glenda. I like the sound of Giselle, that's
all. I don't know why I like Glenda.

155.10 | Well, there's always grandma's name... | MYVAX::LSCHWARTZ | | Fri Aug 22 1986 14:13 | 4 |
| My grandmothers name before it was changed to Gertrude was Gazella
although it sounds corny to a lot of people, I kind of like it.
Otherwise, my more serious suggestion would be Galina (a Russian
name).

| How about: Gail (or Gale)
My grandfather's second wife's grand-daughter's name, and many others'
I'm sure. The ivrit could be up to you.
