David,
You might want to read through topic 129.*, it was started by
me, a non-jewish person, who wanted to have all those questions
and more answered, and several people throughout the topic recommended
several good books to me... I have not been able to read through
all of them yet though, so I can't recommend one over the other yet...
Hope those might help though.
Gale
P.S. The reason for starting that topic is still going very well
if anyone would like that update 8-)...

| A couple of good basic books:
"Nine (or "eight", depending on the edition you find...) Questions
People Ask About Judaism". I think Simon and Shuster has picked this
one up. Good for stereotype shattering and basic education!
Rabbi Donin's books are (much more involved but excellent:
"How To Pray As A Jew", "How To Raise A Jewish Child"; there
is a third one (the one he wrote first) on being a Jew - the
exact title escapes me at the minute. If you ask at the Israel
Bkstore in Brookline, they'll know what you want.
Or send me mail and I'll get the exact details, as I have
the book at home.
