My name is Michael Greenberg, more commonly known to my good friends
by my nickname "Bean". I am a 22 year old white male, 5'7" tall,
150 pounds, with red hair and hazel eyes.
I began working as a software engineer in Nashua about a month ago,
after graduating from the University of New Hampshire in May. I
live in Manchester, N.H., although I am extremely mobile.
I am into most kinds of physical activity, especially tennis,
weightlifting, ice hockey, and skiing. I consider myself to be in
very good condition. I also have many other interests that number
too many to list.
I am interested in meeting single females preferably in the 20-25
year old age bracket. Two qualities I seek most in a women is that
she be reasonably intelligent and at least somewhat athletic.
Interested parties (and I do love to party) can send me mail at

Hobbies: People, swimming, cooking, outdoors, people, movies, everything Jewish.
I am from California, originally; came to New England for graduate school some
three years ago. For some reason I knew I would love the Boston area - its
people, its age (nothing in CA is over 100 years old!) and the more intense
seasons. I haven't been disappointed.
I live in a shared house, in Arlington, with three friends and a cat. It's a
bit of a drive (40 min) to/from work, but worth it! I want to soon live in the
country, but am unwilling as of yet to give up the cultural luxuries of Boston!
Cheers,

Good for you for taking a chance. I now some mature lonely women
who are lonely because they sit home waiting for men to fall out
of the sky. If someone wants to meet people they should let that
fact be known. Also in this day in age it is perfectly proper for
a lady to call a gentleman. She does not have to sit by the phone
sad and lonely. When I was between wives, ( that sounds obscene )
I was very happy when a lady called me.

128.20 | Escaped from NY, Nashua SJM seeks Jewish Digits | SMURF::ROB | | Wed Mar 11 1987 18:22 | 73 |
| Name: Robert Chesler
Age: 22
Sex: M
Kosher: Yes
Religious: No
Location: MK02-1/J9 Merrimack, NH
DTN: 264-0896
E-mail: gorge::rob
I guess that's all the standard stuff. So here goes the rest...
I'm really glad to see thes forum. I've been with Digital for 9
months and hardly even know who is Jewish around me. I've played
peano::singles a bit, with hopes that I might recognize some Jewish
names, although at this point in my life, dating is not necessarily
reserved for Jewish women. For marriage, I can just say that I
hope that it will end up that way. So far, my track record has
not indicated that this will be the case however.
I am an engineer in the Ultrix group. I live in Nashua, and generally
commute to MK02 by motorcycle. I've ridden with the Capitalist
Tools, in NJ, and with the Temple Beth Abraham Rabbi. I don't get
to go the the temple too often, not this year (English) yet, and
this Hebrew year I think only once or twice. The very first Friday
evening service I went to (in my life) was in June, when I wanted
to met the Jewish community in Nashua, especially the Jewish women.
I have been dissapointed by those efforts.
I am not yet fully adjusted to real world singles life, the college
campus was a lot better, although not very Jewish, either. I grew
up in the Bronx, went to school in Princeton, NJ, and I miss the
latter, not the former.
I do go back to both fairly often, and my brief scan of this notes
file indicated that the NY <--> NE trip is a common one.
I would like to meet Jewish women at DEC, or otherwise, from around
this area. I enjoy an evening in Cambridge for social drinking/bowling
and most other things. I regret that I haven't gone skiing as much
as living in New England should allow me, so Skiing would be a real
plus. My favorite skiing place is Stowe, VT. I have enjoyed Crotched
mountain for "long lunch" skiing.
I like to cook, too. Since I keep kosher, I do not get to enjoy
all the good food at the restaurants I go to. I go, and after a
brief explanation, usually in Mandarin, I order something vegetarian.
I never feel that great about it, but I determined a while back
that the benefits of eating out with friends is greater than the
never going out. I have a souped up tuna sandwich almost every
day at the MK02 cafeteria.
But back to cooking, so, when I want to share a meaty meal with
friends, I do the cooking, or I supply the meat.
There is a greater Manchester Jewish singles group, that I get mail
from. I joined them only once, and found the crowd to be older.
I only later found out that they intend their membership to be older
than 25. So, I would be very interested in meeting Young Jewish
Singles regardless of sex for socializing. Nashua just hasn't been
doing that for me as much as I would like. I probably should have
put this in a separate note since most men tend not to read other
men's postings, but as an Ultrix person I can barely handle editing
the few lines I can see. Maybe a new note will develop for non-dating
socializing.
So, if you can relate to anything I've said, or anything you think
I might have said if I knew how to edit on VMS, send a note to
gorge::rob or call me at dtn 264-0896.

Who am I
========
I'm me. How do you like me so far?
Things I Like to do:
===================
I'm a Traveler. If I have spare time it is usually spent
exploring places I have not been to. Whether by car or
foot, I enjoy meeting new people and seeing things I have
not seen before! My vacations are like gold to me and
I love to plan vacations to foreign countries or to
states I have never been to!
Most weekends during ski season I can be found
in museums, Fanuel Hall during the day and out to eat at night
[or skiing of course]. Not being from this area originally,
I find there is alot more to explore in Boston and that
I have only just now begun to discover what it has to offer,
and am always looking for new events or places!
In terms of Music, I enjoy mostly all kinds...in particular
are Progressive Rock [The Cure, Talking Heads, XTC, Peter Gabriel],
Reggae [Any really] and Classical but I do not limit myself
and will buy an album that someone mentions is worth a
listen to [depending on their taste of course]!
Saturdays I like to go on small road trips. I have not
even been to the northern areas of New England since
I have been here so I would like to do more of this!
For more excitement I like to dance [Spit, Metro,
Red Parrot, The Limelight, AREA!] and just generally
have a great time with my friends. Friends. My friends
are my support as I am for them. Friends are very
important to me and I truly value them!
Sunday is my day for relaxation and self gratification!
I greet each week by reading the Globe, over a LARGE breakfast,
and then buying everything from the Lechmere circular
[I hate decisions]!
Cooking! How could I forget!? I love to cook!
People I'm Attracted to
=======================
"We see ourselves in others."
-- A Clone?
Honesty is an important quality that I try to keep
in mind within myself, and that I try to see in others.
Although I consider this important, it is difficult to
be honest sometimes without hurting someone's feelings
[which makes you wonder if you are hitting to close
to home] or having someone shy away since they feel
pressured, perhaps you can relate to this. Realistic
loyalty, trust, affection, time, thoughts and food
are things that I hold dear.
Generally, i'm a very understanding person, if a
friend needs to talk, I will make time to talk
to him or her. I also expect the same from those,
that I call, my friends when I am in 'need' or
if I just want to babble about something
that is on my mind. I try to surround myself
with people that enjoy, not only the material
things, the goals in life that I seem to strive
for, and if I can't find anyone, i'll pay others. 8-}
What I do for DEC
=================
I'm a Software Engineer. Anything beyond that might sound
boring and nerdy so i'll leave it for later, but I will
mention that Flex time is the best part of this job..!
How I Appear
============
Well, I guess the best way to start is to give the
general statistics as everyone seems to like to try
to put a face with the writing, which I can understand,
as I try to do the same with everyone I have read in
this file, and have been more often wrong than right
[guess we all can't help inserting our favorite fantasy
into a 2-dimensional description]...
Born: May 1962 {Gemini - no your not! yes I am! no your not!...}
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Dk Brown in the Winter
Lt Brown in the Summer depending how much suntan
lotion gets in it.
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 155 [Proportional, as they say. Who's they?]
Skin: Not much sun here is there?
Dress: At work I can be found wearing very comfortable
clothing and like to dress according to my moods
or to a particular occassion, but in general I
dress casually, but neat, and like to see others
who feel comfortable with what they wear.
Who am I looking for
====================
Although many people say that writing about themself
is the hardest part of these entries, I must say that
putting down in writing WHO you would like to meet
me much more difficult. Really, I mean you don't want to
just say that only women between 5'3 and 5'5 should reply
because that might stop someone who is 5'6 from replying
who might very well be a great person! SO, how about this...
If you are someone who can appreciate the values I
have entered here and is
attractive but unpretentious,
confident but not stubborn,
aggressive but not overbearing,
affectionate but not suffocating,
independent but not closed,
fit but not compulsive...
and are between, say, 20-28 ish, then why not
send off a message telling me what you think or just
who you are!

I've never written one of these before, so I hope that this doesn't
sound too stupid...
I am 25, single, 5'8", 140 lbs, and living in Boston. I am a grad
student between my first and second year of business school working
for Digital for the summer. My hobbies include hiking, cycling,
reading, guitar, and most sports - particularly tennis, skiing, and
softball. My musical tastes range from contemporary
rock (no punk rock or heavy metal) to "older rock" to classical.
I am a fairly active person; I much prefer spending a weekend hiking
or cycling to lying on a beach or watching sports on TV. I am a
little old fashioned (in some ways), not very religious, and a bit
of a romantic.
I am looking for someone roughly my age (between 21 and 28) with
similar interests. My one request is that whoever I meet should
have the same attitude about this as I do: meeting creates no
obligation (to meet again) on either person's part. (Hopefully,
this will make it more fun and less awkward for both of us.) I will
only be at Digital until the third week of August. If you would like
to meet for an informal evening or weekend brunch, please send
me mail at ESPN::STRAUSS.
Larry
O.K. now, how stupid did that sound?

| Sex: Male
Age: 30
Hair: Brown
Beard: Reddish-brown
Location: work in Littleton, live in Hudson
Last time in Shul: Yom Kippur
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 12 stone (I'm getting bored by statistics, so you'll have
to look it up.)
More important than the dry numbers: I graduated from Brandeis in
82, then moved to Providence and New Haven for Grad school and
picked up a couple of Master's degrees. I moved back to the Boston
area in Jan (when I started with DEC), and am finally getting
settled.
I tend to be fairly easy going (except when I'm competing which I
limit to sailing and volleyball, and I've even learned to teach
during a race if nothing else is going on) and like to spend time
talking with friends. I enjoy word play, puns, and similar low
humor.
My interests are wide ranging, from sailing and bicycling to
theatre and theory of computation (which is what my last degree is
in, and I still follow the literature a bit).
I tend to like small groups (sailing with a 9 person crew is about
as big a group as I'm comfortable with), and am particularly fond
of cooking for (and with) one or two others.
What am I looking for in a woman? I can't really categorize the
women I've found attractive. You must be smart, and a sense of
humor helps, but beyond that anything's possible, so send me mail,
and see where it goes from there.

I don't think that remark is appropriate. Myself, I subscribe to
different practices of certain religions. Does that make me not
welcome here? I thought this conference is for ANYONE interested
in Jewish issues.
Don't discount other people's "discoveries", even if they don't match

128.42 | hesitant agreement with .40 | ERICG::ERICG | Eric Goldstein | Mon May 01 1989 02:22 | 7 |
| With some reluctance, I agree with .40. The topic title is "Jewish Singles
at Digital", and the gentleman in .39 sounds more like a Jewish convert
to Christianity. We have had a lot of discussion in this conference about
whether a Jew who considers himself a Christian is still considered Jewish,
and I think that it is safe to say that there is much disagreement on the
subject. Given that the gentleman is *definitely* a Christian, however,
the Christian notes file might be a more appropriate place than BAGELS.

| re .42:
I get the impression that your underlying premise is that a Jewish girl
(a "real" Jew) would have no interest in such a person, or any such person
that doesn't see Judaism as the ONLY proper doctrine and/or the only one
worth associating with. I don't like the sounds of that - but I don't want
to put words in your mouth.
Perhaps this gentleman hopes that Jewish women here are more "open-minded"
than that (without putting words in HIS mouth, either). Did it ever occur
to you that he likes to talk to Jewish women about their religious beliefs?
Maybe I'm weird, but such "selectivity" bothers me. I have other synonyms
for "selectivity", but I'd rather not suggest them unless I have to.

I don't see that in .42 at all. The reply in question is simply not
appropriate for the "Jewish Singles at Digital" topic, since the
author is, at best, only 2 for 3 (assuming he's an employee).
Perhaps, it would just be easier for the mod to move the note to a new
topic - it would work toward the goal of "valuing differences", yet
not cause any undue consternation by remaining in this note.

Even though the noter practices a religion other than Judaism, he is a Jew.
As such, it is not inappropriate to post a note in a Jewish Singles topic.
I see no reason to delete the note. On the other hand, I would be very
surprised to find that such a note in this conference would attract much
useful attention. From that point, suggesting AN ADDITIONAL note in some
other conferences is probably a good idea (though CHRISTIAN may not be 8^{).

.43> to put words in your mouth.
Gee, I don't like the sound of it, either. In any case, it has been my
experience that different Jewish girls are interested in different kinds
of people. So are Jewish women, for that matter. So are Jewish men, Jewish
boys, and non-Jews.
My actual "underlying premise" was that people (Jews, girls, whatever) reading
notes under the topic "Jewish Singles at Digital" would expect to find replies
from Jewish singles at Digital. I also believe that the gentleman in question
does not, in the opinion of many readers of this conference, fall into that
category, and that therefore the note might be better placed elsewhere.
The moderator has stated that he disagrees with me on this, and of course
it's his perogative to rule on whether a note is placed appropriately.
.43> Maybe I'm weird, but such "selectivity" bothers me. I have other synonyms
.43> for "selectivity", but I'd rather not suggest them unless I have to.
The existence of this topic suggests that there are readers who are interested
specifically in Jewish singles. Other readers, or even some of the same
ones, may be interested in Christian singles or black singles or red-headed
divorcees or married Italians. Notes from such people logically would be
found under the topics "Christian Singles", "Black Singles", "Red-Headed
Divorcees", and "Married Italians", respectively.
As far as I know, having such preferences violates no laws nor corporate
policies. Selectivity is a perfectly reasonable word to describe this;
if you can think of a better one, please let us know what it is.

| Where have I seen this rathole before :-?
If the gentleman in question is looking for a contact with a female
Jewish single, I'd say this topic is appropriate. I, for once, would
use it as well, had I a similar interest.
Like, is it "Jewish Singles in Digital looking for ...", or "Looking
for Jewish Singles in Digital"?
Semantically yours,

| I have to agree with our moderator. The gentleman is a Jew and single. He is
not hiding his un-Jewish religious beliefs. If there are any female Jewish
singles reading this conference that are interested in meeting him under these
circumstances, she will not be surprised by what she finds.
I feel terrible about Aaron's religious decision but I feel we should not
pretend that he doesn't exist.

re: .45,
Shalom, Mr. Moderator, and all,
>suggesting AN ADDITIONAL note in some other conferences is probably
>a good idea (though CHRISTIAN may not be 8^{)
On the contrary, CHRISTIAN is an excellent suggestion, and I thank
you for making mention of it. It has an active singles group.
There are at least two other Jewish Christians who participate
in/read that conference. There may be more 'read onlys' that I
don't know about.
As for the rest of you who supported the moderator's decision to
let the note remain, I'm proud of you (not that it matters...but
I am), and your courage to speak up.

| Wow, several messages to really beat in a point. I really thought
this was a conference section for Jewish Singles at Digital to write
and get to meet other Jewish Singles, not to beat up on a poor guy
for his religious beliefs.
Although I am Jewish and intend to remain so, I am hardly religious
and have been criticized many times for not observing the traditions.
I have a feeling that it could have been one of the reasons why
I never married.
Anyone remember me? I'm the one who wrote breaking up is hard on
the morale. My former relationship was an interfaith relationship
and it didn't work out. I was hurt enough to condemn all interfaith
relationships.
However, please let's bring this section of Bagels back where it
belongs. It belongs to Jewish Singles not to beat an issue to death.

| re .51
I don't think it's THAT difficult to understand why there was an
outpouring of emotion over the "poor guy"'s note. After all, most
people who read this conference do so because they have strong
Jewish feelings, and reading about a "Hebrew-Christian" (or along
those lines) is an insult to our sensiblities. Add to this the
fact that he wants to use this conference to date a Jewish girl,
and sparks are gonna fly.
To tell the truth, however, I am glad he submitted his note. Jews
in general are ignorant to the extent to which other Jews have been
lost to the Jewish community at large. For the sake of the survival
of our people we must double and re-double our efforts for Jewish
education. A majority of Jewish children in this country receive
none WHATSOEVER. And of the few who do, a majority go under protest
after a full day or week at school, and are hardly interested in
the proceedings, and who can blame them?
A person can only make an informed decision about his life if he
has been INFORMED.

| Hi
I'm Matt Kirk (yeah, I know, my name's Gaelic, thanks to immigration - my
grandparents were all right out of the shtetl & spoke no English). I'm 5'
11", 25 years old, weigh less than 160 pounds, have brown hair (most of it's
left), and brown eyes.
Lots of activities appeal to me - the ones I like best are reading, theatre,
visiting museums, & being with friends, but I'm not looking for someone to
fill a shopping list so I won't list everything here - if you want to find
out more, please write...

| I have a cousin, who is a SJM, 50 years old. He's somewhat ahy and quiet,
but once you get to know him, he's pretty funny. He's got brown hair, brown eyes
and is good looking. He's about 5' 4" and weighs aroung 135.
He owns a house in Salem, N.H. and spends time on his beautiful home,
landscaping the yard and starting a vegetable garden. He likes to go to
restaurants, movies, etc and he is a non-smoker.
If anyone is interested, please send mail to me at MYCKEY::ROMAN and I
will pass along your message to him.
Thanks
