127.0. "Any GOOD Bakery's in NH?" by CIPHER::TEMPLE () Fri May 16 1986 16:06

    Anyone know of any GOOD Jewish Bakery's in the Southern
    New Hampshire area. After reading BAGELS, my mouth is
    watering for a good New York Style Bagel....Or am I only
    dreaming

127.1The Bagel Alley - NashuaSWATT::MAGENHEIMFri May 16 1986 17:136
    I've never been there, but there's supposedly a decent bagel bakery
    at The Bagel Alley in downtown Nashua. They also (supposedly) have
    good deli, including freshly sliced Nova (instead of the cello packages
    they have in Purity Supreme and the like).

    By far, Bagel Alley is the best place I have been to!!!!!

    I am still looking for a decent Deli in southern NH.

127.4butchers and bakers...HYDRA::FEINBERGFri May 23 1986 14:1610
    When the Jews came over from Europe to America, they landed in
    Boston.

    The bakers went to New York.

    The butchers remained in Boston and became bakers.

    'nuff said?

    My grandparents came directly to New York. However, they were neither
    butchers nor bakers.

    re:  .-1

    That was sarcastic.....my grandparents came thru Ellis Island, also.

    But, all the same, one would be hard pressed to find a really decent
    bakery in the Boston area, hence the comment about butchers and
    bakers. And -- if you want one that's Kosher and Shomer Shabbos,
    er, well, there's *very* little choice. Closest thing is Taam Tuv
    in Brookline. Kuppel's in Brookline is VH Kosher (not Shomer Shabbos,
    etc.); some people think they're great - I don't care for them.

    Bagel alley in Nashua was supervised for a while, and was pretty
    good. They shook up their management a lot about 2 years ago, started
    serving ham, crabmeat, etc., and ...

    Kosher Mart (Brighton, Chestnut Hill Ave. 4 blocks north of
    Commonwealth) does its own baking, as well as importing some things
    from NY. Probably the only place in Boston one can get
    "mezonos bread." It looks like bread, feels like bread, and
    (probably) tastes like bread, only halachically it's like cake.

    Now all we need is "hamotzi apple juice"...

    Liberty Bakeries in Western Mass. produces decent kosher goods at
    its W. Springfield plant, then ships daily to its outlets in the
    Connecticut River Valley. The owner sells his shop to a Gentile
    for Shabbat, Yom Tov, and Chol Hamoed Pesach.
    N.B. I don't know whether the coffee shops -within the bakery outlets-
    have supervision.

    Kosher Mart (Brighton) delivers to Springfield/Longmeadow if a minimum
    order (~$100) is placed. Imagine the look on your neighbors' faces
    when a refrigerated truck pulls up to your door and
    delivers the Shabbos brisket. I can give those interested phone
    numbers to call in Forest Park; send mail to WHAT::SCHWARTZ.
