114.1 | do any brands have it on the label? | DEREP::GOLDSTEIN | A paean-1; a phillipic-1d | Wed Apr 23 1986 14:17 | 9 |
| Without knowing the gruesome details of matzo, I'd rely on the
following guideline: All carbohydrates are 4 cal/gram, all proteins
are also about 4 c/g, and fats are 9 c/g. Take the weight of matzo,
remove the water content (very low, I'd guess), and figure that
it's got very little fat or protein. That leaves about 4c/g, or
about 110 calories/ounce. Since there's some residual water content,
go down from there. You could do a lot worse.
Smear it with schmaltz (butter, etc.) and all bets are off!

114.2 | 75 calories each | KATIE::RICHARDSON | | Mon Apr 28 1986 11:15 | 6 |
| Rakusen's matzoh says it is 75 calories a piece, but those are smaller
pieces than most matzohs. I checked all the other kinds we have in
the house and none of the rest of them list a calorie count. I'd
say, eat it and don't worry about it.

| A good approximation is:
1 slice bread = 1/2 machine matza
= 1/3 hand matza

114.4 | carbohydrate is not fat | REX::MINOW | Martin Minow, DECtalk Engineering | Mon Jul 07 1986 00:58 | 8 |
| In general, carbohydrates (i.e., starches and sugars) do not
get turned into body fat.
Of course, eating lots of carbohydrates may cause any fat you
do happen to eat to stick around.

Yes, it depends on the carbohydrate, but that isn't what you should
worry about. The less refined the sugar/starch is, the more complete
the carbohyrdate, the better it is for you. Hense equal amounts
of Wonder Bread carbs is worse for you than say Baldwin Hill Whole
Wheat.
Don't worry about it. Worry about the butter.

| I don't believe it, a reply to this old note of mine! Well at least
it's in plenty of time for next Pesach.
Wonder bread, as my daughter would say, YUCK!
