92.0. "A CONTEST!" by GRAMPS::LISS (Fred - ESD&P Shrewsbury MA) Wed Mar 26 1986 15:49

I propose a contest. Right now the conference title refers to
a nonexistent note. Let's all post our suggestions here for a
new title and see who comes up with the most imaginative one.

I like the title the file had when it was first opened.

    	 "The Chosen People"

				Fred

PS - If you win, Mike will forward all the flames he receives
about this file directly to you as a prize.

I think that "The Chosen People" could be a bit controversial.
How about Felafel instead of bagels; or to get off the gastronomic
    accent, how about DerekhEretz?

You must mean the title of the notesfile, not the
name of the file itself. I am resistant to change
the filename. Besides, I kinda like it. The title,
hmmm... sure I'll take votes and will be GLAD to
forward all flames to the winner. Especially the ones
from a certain person with a 'color'ful name, know
what I mean, say no more, wink wink nudge nudge.

    	1) HATIKVA

    	4) KVETCH

    ACTUALLY I LIKE #1 MOST.

Actually I am working on a routine that
will set the title to the Ten Commandments
one by one for a ten day cycle.

$!	Execute this command file every day. It sets the
$!	title of the BAGELS conference to a different commandment.
$!
$!	NOTE: I don't really know the commandments, so I tried
$!	to recreate them. Feel free to accuratize.

Can you set the conference title to rotate through the 365 negative
    mitzvot on a yearly cycle?

Sorry -- I don't keep a list in the office.

Any number of books would have it. One good source is an English
translation of Maimonides' _Book_of_the_Commandments_. I believe
    the translator is Chavel.

Amazing how resourceful us jews are in giving guilt trips. Imagine
a different Loh Ta'aseh (thou shalt not...)each day. Then we can
keep track of how many we do or don't do (many of them pertain to
either temple worship or things to be done in Israel alone).

How about quotes from Pirkei Avot (Ethics of our Fathers). There
are some very elegant and pertinent quotables about simple clean
good living. A little electronic musar if you will.
(musar: when the head of a yeshiva (or usually the ancient rebbes
would give classes on morality and proper living etc. its called musar. )

I see someone (yasher koach) has set up a conference title changer.
Nice to be greeted by the "mitzvah of the day."

The next step might be "halachah yomit," something practical for
the day, e.g., "Eat fruit" on Tu B'shevat.

I like the idea of of a different commandment appearing as the heading
each day. The only problem is that with VAX notes the heading is
only displayed when you ask for a directory or there are no new
    notes.
