65.0. "A GOOD BAGEL IN CALIF.?" by USWRSL::LUKERO () Fri Jan 31 1986 17:13

TWO THINGS IN MY LIFE I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO TRY; AN AUTHENTIC JEWISH BAGEL
AND AN AUTHENTIC NEW YORK PIZZA. WHERE IN THE SANTA CLARA VALLEY MAY I
EXPERIENCE AS CLOSE A COPY AS POSSIBLE??

try the Bread Box in Los Gatos - they have pretty good (tho maybe
not exactly authentic) cinnamon/raisen bagels as well as all the
    necessary ones......

if you are in San Francisco, try the House of Bagels (on Geary right
    off 19th Ave.)

probably the best in the Bay Area would be from The Bagel King (in
Dublin and Walnut Creek). Send me MAIL for more info - I know someone
in your organization who lives in Walnut Creek and MAY bring you
some since they go there weekly (if you are REAL NICE AND SAY PLEASE
she'll probably agree to bring a "care package".

The Bagel Works is in Palo Alto (on Lytton near High) and in Redwood
City and Cupertino. I assume these are "authentic" bagels -- the
Palo Alto store closes for Jewish holidays.

For pizza, there's a place in Mountain View a few blocks east of El
Camino, I'll have to call a friend to get the name 'cause it has been a
few years. It's a little hole in the wall place but really good!

If you're in San Francisco, try Village Pizza, the one I liked best was
on Scott or Fillmore between Lombard and Bay(?) (in the Marina) and
there was also one on Van Ness not far from Geary (if they're still
    there).

Also there's a little place near the base in Alameda, I just know it's
got a bunch of great b&w pictures of NYC on the walls, was only there
once but authentic was its middle name.
