46.0. "News from home" by R2D2::GREG () Fri Nov 08 1985 02:39

I propose for those yordim, and others who would be interested, to open a
chapter on news or topics from Israel. As any Israeli will tell you reading
three newspapers a day, and listening to the Kol Israel on the shortwave is
just not enough to get a "balanced view" of what's happening. So any chevreh
on TAVEIS or TAV02 who would like to share some of the daily grudge could
enter it here for discussion. Any comments?
                         Greg

  I don't read this file EVERY day, but what the ...
Here are some latest "local" news from the land of right-to-left:

 o Finally we had some rain. Second time this "winter" (so far).

 o The headlines include mostly the last versions of king Hussein, president
    Mubarak, Yasser Araffat, etc.. and some internal arguments in the "Knesset"
    about what is better for whom...

 o The black market $ (this is not a VMS prompt) has gone a bit down. It is
    now around 1590 shekels, while the "formal" $ is about 1480 shekels. The
    new shekel coin is a subject of many laughs being such a small coin (looks
    like aspirin).

 Is this the kind of stuff you're interested in ?

Nitsan D. :-)

Bidiuok! No religious stuff along the lines of which way to hang a mezuzah
please!
BTW, what's the exit tax now - do you think we can afford to visit home :^)
46.3TAV02::NITSANMon Nov 11 1985 23:095
I'm not sure. I think it's $150.
TAV02::* correct me if I'm wrong.

By the way, Eilat has been declared a "free of tax" area (there must be some
better English terminology for that). No V.A.T. in Eilat...
46.4TAV02::GOLDMANTue Nov 12 1985 02:224
I think it went down to $100. (Don't forget the 20% surcharge on the
ticket!)

milouim this year (again?) :^)
46.6Re: Reference to S/W broadcasts in 46.0...DSSDEV::CHASENMon Mar 17 1986 14:376
    Do you have the frequencies/times/longitude and latitude for Kol Israel?
    Do they broadcast in English? (Alas, I speak no Hebrew). I would
    very much enjoy listening to English language information from Israel.

    Thanks,
    Harris.

    Will post them in tomorrow...the frequencies are valid for about
    3 months. Hours of broadcast remain the same except for adjustments
    to daylight savings time.
    For those of you who speak hebrew, there is also a "near" 24 hour
    broadcast on shortwave with hourly news.
    In general, there is a book that's published once a year I beleive
    which is called World Radio and TV Handbook quite useful if you're
    into short wave radio listening or want to "schlepp" video cassettes
    to the other end of the world...only to find that the system is
    different.
46.8KOL Israel in English to N-AmericaMUNCSS::AJKAnton J. Kuchelmeister, @MUTThu Mar 20 1986 03:5530
The actual schedule of KOL Israel for North America in the English language, as
listed in the WRTVH 1986 (World Radio TV Handbook), is the following:

	Time (in Universal Frequencies listed (in kHz)
	Time Coordinated)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
	0000-0030 UTC  }
	0100-0125 UTC   }         5915, 7410, 9435, 9815
	0200-0225 UTC  }
	0500-0515 UTC             7410, 9009, 11605
	1100-1130 UTC             17590
	1800-1815 UTC             9385, 11585
	2000-2030 UTC             9435, 9815, 11605
	2230-2300 UTC             5880, 7410, 9435, 9815

The frequencies could be changed, for example I know for sure that the
frequencies for the transmission at 2000 UTC differ, - they announce these
frequencies: 9815, 9860, 11605, 11655, 11960, 12080 (all in kHz).

The above transmissions are from the External Service of KOL Israel. They
do have broadcasts in other languages, too, e.g. in Hebrew, or one
transmission in easy Hebrew at 2300-2325 UTC on 5880, 7410, 9435, 9815 kHz.

An Overseas Program Schedule is available free of charge from:
Israel Broadcasting Authority, Overseas Services, P.O.Box 1082, Jerusalem

Apart from this, the Home Service of KOL Israel in Hebrew is also relayed on
various shortwave frequencies throughout the day.

	Happy Listening!
