    My customer is following problem with MCM.
    
    MR$COMPRESS runs nightly and reports an error to the administrator that
    it cannot compress the MRM$DIRECT.DAT file because it is locked by
    another user.  Upon sho dev/f etc. they found that the processes that have
    it open are at least 6 MCM$F* processes. 
    
    The configuaration is:
    
    VMS 6.2
    MR 3.3-313
    MCM 1.0
    
    
    Should they upgrade MCM?  Even though MCM is NOT supported anymore, is
    this a supported configuration?  Is MCM 1.0 even compatible with MR
    3.3?
    
    It seems from the notes about this upgrade, that it is not easy, is
    that still true?

	Is this intermittant? Did it suddenly just start happenning? In what context did they issue sho dev/fil (ie was MR running or suspended)? Is mr$compress being run standalone, or as part of mr$tidy? What are the specific error messages? Is this a cluster? Dave
