683.0. "MCM inhibits DR requests?" by VELI::KORKKO (Veli Krkk @FNO, 879-5512) Sun Feb 09 1997 14:43

        Customer environment is

        	OpenVMS V6.2
        	MR V3.3A
        	MRGATE V3.3A
        	MRX V2.3 ECO #4
        	MCM V1.0 (should they upgrade)

        plus quite a bunch of

        	OpenVMS V5.5-2
        	MR V3.2
        	ALL-IN-1 V3.0

Now the problem is that delivery receipts do not for inbound
external X.400 messages. So far, I've verified this and also
observed that this happens only if the message passes through
        MCM.

I.e. if I send from my system (Digital) to

        	digital@P=customer@mailnet

the mail finally ends up to ALL-IN-1 (normally via MCM)

        	digital@a1@a1node@XLT

(This is our FM site in fact, that is why we have mail
recipient with S=DIGITAL.) where XLT is mailbox used by MCM.

On ALL-IN-1 I can see that no DR was requested. If the message
bypassed MCM, i.e. I modified DDS entry to route message
        directly to

        	digital@a1@a1node

I (and ALL-IN-1 code) do see that DR had been requested and
therefore DR is issued and succesfully later received on my
        system.

What could the reason that MCM "zaps" DR request bit?

You will need to upgrade to MCM v1.1. Does the customer have support?
We no longer support MCM officially but you are welcome to the new kit
if you would like to try it out.

    Regards,

    Rebecca DiNardo

683.2have to think about itVELI::KORKKOVeli Krkk @FNO, 879-5512Tue Feb 11 1997 16:5217
Does the customer have support? Well, who knows. They are in a
FM type contract and we (Digital OMS group) are managing their
infrastructure. They are moving towards MS-Mail and Exchange,
        phasing Digital stuff out.

Those who did the MCM stuff originally, are not anymore with
Digital. They managed to escape some time ago... :-)

I guess this leaves me supporting whatever customer (like them)
with whatever problem whoever might have. Do I have support
        might be good question?

I'll have to think about this.

        Thanks, veli

You can pull the kit off the network, see 10.last. You can probably
get a license from Fouad Bendris.

    Rebecca

re: .0 - Yes, upgrade (but read the V1,1 docs FIRST).

    Dave,

    > re: .2 - Harrumph; Last time I checked I was still here.

I think .2 was referring to the people who delivered the MCM stuff at this
particular customer site, not you. :-)
