I'm not sure, but I think the hope would be that the bank writes it off (not likely) or gives you a personal note for the difference of the amount you can sell it for and the amount of the mortgage balance. My hairdresser was telling me about her near-experience with completing a short sell (after months of searching for a buyer who would come even close). At the last minute, the sellers changed their mind when they find out about some serious tax consequences. |
