>> 4:30 - 5:45 Dervish
I had the pleasure of seeing Dervish, (and having a few pints with them
afterwards), last year in Ayr. They are all totally brilliant musicians
and Kathy, the singer, has a mighty voice for someone so small. Highly
recommended....

1576.2 | Soccer or Festival? | NEMAIL::HANLY | | Tue May 21 1996 13:31 | 11 |
| The festival looks like it would be well worth attending. It is a shame
that the Republic of Ireland v America soccer (football) game is on
Sunday, 9th of June. I wonder if this will have an impact on the
attendance on Sunday. It should be a good game, as Ireland is going
through a transition and USA is improving by leaps and bounds.
Also, don't forget the non-canine Wolfhounds at the festival! I
believe that the Boston Irish Wolfhounds will be palying an exhibition
game of rugby at the festival again this year.
Regards, Ken Hanly

| Stonehill is south of Boston - I think it's in Easton Mass.
At least a 45 minute ride from anywhere near Boston :v)
The festival is worth the trip though, with the exception
of some long food/drink queues, the heat, and the port-o-potties -
which are strategically placed in direct sunlight with an
inside ambient temperature of 130 Farenheit/46 Celsius.

| Mick, in case you don't like the Guinness, we'll have a small
reserve of the good stuff (Murphy's, that is).
I think Mr. Burns drinks Knickerbockers.

| Did anyone hear Frances Black at Stonehill? I recently bought a tape called
"A Celtic Heartbeat Collection". She sings "All the Lies That You Told Me" ...
and has one of the most beatiful voices that I've ever heard.

| We did. Unfortunately, due to delays and a 9 pm Sunday
evening noise curfew, she only got to sing a couple songs.
Sharron Shannon was great as usual. Delores Keane had
laryngitis sounded like a Shetland Pony.
The Highland bull (gee_honey_what_kind_of_animal_is_that) didn't
make the show this year. Though there were lots of dogs and sheep.

| My 2 cents.
Sharon was brilliant, as usual.
Dolores should have called in sick.
Frances was very weak. She had a terrible quiver in her voice. Maybe it's from being on the
road. She did All the lies that you told me, A wall of tears and Sonny (She called up
Dolores to sing it with her).
The group called Dervish was very good.
In my opinion, you can't beat the local talent of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri.

True. I never really thought of that. And they're volunteers too.
And some of the Comhaltas members have better voices than the
"paid singers".
Hmmmm.
