So George, who were you supporting? Phillip clinched it ok for the Olde
Worlde peeps over there. The Ryder Cup Team carried Phil shoulder high into
Dublin Airport last night, about 3000 were there in the rain to greet them. I
think the organiser of this weeks European Open in the K club will be rubbing
his hands in anticipation of the crowds at the event...10 of the 12 team members
are playing (if sober!) and I think the cup will be on display too.

Well OK, I'll admit I was rooting for the US. But if they had
to lose - I was really glad it was Walton that clinched it...
Some of the US players just didn't play well at all...

    Where's the K club?

The 1999 ryder is at The Country Club at Brookline Mass. They are
thinking of using my nearby Putterham golf course as the parking
lot(car park) for the event :v)

 George,

The K Club is somewhere in Dublin I think according to the Radio
Eireann reporter I was listening to Monday morning. It may be the one started
by Michael Smurfitt or was that one in Kilkenny...someone in Ireland - help!

The last few European Ryder Cups and I think the next one were held at
the Belfry which is about 5 miles up the road from this (Birmingham UK) office.

The K club is in Straffan, Co. Kildare. It's not that fare from Dublin.
the other course is Mount Juliet in Kilkenny. Seve was alleged to have
said that after Spain in 1997 the Ryder Cup would be held in Ireland.
    Now that's a thought!!!

As one who was in the Belfry for Christy's two iron cracker in 1989 I
can say it's a great event for golf fans.

Everybody knows that Faldo clinched it.

    re .5

Well CHARLEY, sure it was a great putt from Faldo under immense
pressure, far more than what Walton had to go through when he got to
    18. But then I expect Nick Faldo knew that Phillip Walton had gone
three up with three to play on the 15th when he stood over that putt.
That meant he knew a win was on and he didn't want to let Walton and
    his other team-mates down.

So I would say it was teamwork really. Walton's brilliant iron shot on
15 set Faldo up psychologically to win his match. On the other hand
who knows what would have happened to Walton on 18 if Faldo had not
won. And if Curtis Strange had halfed his match or beaten Faldo, Jay
Haas might not have put his drive behind a tree on 18.

They are two great sportsmen on a great team.
