Dublin is stock full of Golf courses, ranging from the exclusive and
expensive to good value. At the top end you have Portmarnock and Royal
Dublin and there is a very good pay-as-you-play (�10) at Hollystown,
near Mulhuddart just north of Dublin. Your brother's best bet may be
to try the tourist office and pick one that takes his fancy.

| Thanks Dermot. I'll let him know about Portmarock and Royal Dublin.
He's travelling for work this week, so the travel agency was able to
get him some tee times. He plays 36 holes a day when he's on vacation,
but I think he'll limit it to 18 while in Dublin.

| And for southern Ireland...
Another real nice course is Waterford Castle - it's on an island
at Waterford city. Youghal is nice - beautiful panoramic views
if you don't mind the criss-cross fairways.

re.0 Why not detour north and play Royal Portrush which is where the
PGA Seniors Open was played a few weeks ago.

We played at Bodenstown, County Kildare (famous for the Wolfe Tone
grave). It's a nice parkland course and good value at �10.

| I just read about a place in Kildare. I don't remember the name of it.
It was in Arts and Antiques, which is an American magazine. It was an
older grand hotel or estate that was recently renovated. It has a 5 star
rating. Great food and golf. It looked absolutely wonderful.

| You are probably thinking of Straffan. Smurfitts have a large interest
in this course. Some lovely paintings by Jack B Yeats in the club
house.
Its a great place for racing Golf cars. I am told the Golf course is
very good also.
Incedentally the previous owners of the place came to somewhat "sticky
ends".
