Guinness Country Cottage Promotion Builds Upon Success
of 'Win Your Own Pub In Ireland' Contest

Grand Prize Cottage To Be Featured Nationally
on PBS Television Series 'Hometime' With Dean Johnson

STAMFORD, Conn., July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Ever dream about having
your own place in the country? What if that "country" were Ireland?
This Fall, you'll have the chance to win your own authentic country
cottage in Ireland's picturesque River Lee Valley, and two round-trip
air tickets per year for the next ten years, in the "Guinness Country
Cottage" promotion.

"The tremendous response to our unique 'Win Your Own Pub In Ireland'
program over the past two years encouraged us to expand upon the Irish
experience by creating the 'ultimate time share' -- a chance to win a
holiday cottage in the beautiful Irish countryside," said Todd
Stevenson, Guinness Group Marketing Director, Guinness Import Company

    An Irish Country Getaway...

What could be more relaxing than waking up in a cottage nestled in
the lush rolling hills of Southwest Ireland? The charm and quaint
elegance of Ireland is evident in every aspect of the Guinness cottage
-- from its thatched roof to its naturally landscaped property adorned
with a myriad of colorful flowers and green foliage. Inside, the
cottage has two bedrooms, one bath, a kitchen, den and living room with
a stone fireplace. All of the rooms offer a beautiful view of
the River Lee Valley. Step outside, and the Irish countryside is at
your feet and ready to be explored!

    Guinness Hits The Airwaves...

For the first time in the history of U.S. Guinness promotions, the
"Guinness Country Cottage" promotion will be featured on national
television. "Hometime," a popular PBS do-it-yourself home improvement
series starring Dean Johnson, visited Ireland this past May to film an
entire episode focusing on the Guinness cottage including the
installation of a new patio. The episode will air in mid-September.

    Write A Winning Postcard...

Entry forms will be available nationwide beginning in mid-August
wherever Draught Guinness and Pub Draught Guinness are sold. The
contest asks you to imagine yourself as the new owner of the Guinness
cottage and complete the following greeting in 50 words or less for a
chance to win the cottage and two round-trip Aer Lingus air travel
tickets per year for the next 10 years.

"It's the end of my first day in the cottage.

As I watch my Pub Draught Guinness settle, I begin to think about..."

The contest is open to U.S. residents, 21 and older. All entries
will be judged on the basis of originality, relevance to Guinness,
appeal and clarity. Deadline for entry is September 30, 1995. The
winner will be notified by mail on or about December 1, 1995.

Guinness, the best selling stout in the U.S, and worldwide, has been
brewed since 1759 at St. James's Gate in Dublin, Ireland. Introduced in
the U.S. in 1993, Pub Draught Guinness incorporates a revolutionary
in-can draught technology allowing consumers to enjoy the rich and
creamy taste of Draught Guinness at home. Guinness was the first brewer
to introduce this award-winning technology to the U.S. market. Harp
lager is brewed at Harp Brewery in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. All
are imported by the Guinness Import Company, Stamford, Conn. The GIC
portfolio of premium imported beers also includes Bass Ale, Moosehead
Canadian lager, Moosehead Canadian Ice, Dos Equis Amber and Dos Equis
Special lager, Pilsner Urquell and Kaliber nonalcoholic brew.

It's obvious that my last prize winning entry to Guinness
for the pub in Bantry must have been lost in the mail, as I've
never heard from them. 'Tis a pity.

I'll do one better than Jim, I'll give you the cottage as
long as you let me use it! Sorry Jim, but times are getting
    tough here at Digital. ;v)

By the way, it didn't say exactly where this cottage was
located - only in the "River Lee valley". Now that's a
rather large area. The could be anywhere from Cork City
    out to Macroom.

Well, once again Guinness has passed over what I considered to be a
winning entry....well actually any of my 5 entries could have won.

The cottage plus two round trip coach tickets for 10 years (worth
about $110,000) was won by Robert Wittig of Carnegie, Pennsylvania.

I've been a very faithful Guinness drinker since my first trip to
Ireland but this may just turn me into a Murphy's man!
