A new Viking site has been discovered on the banks of the Barrow. This site is close to the the village of Vicarstown in Co Laois. The site borders 3 kingdoms Laois Offaly and Kildare. The site was fortified and probably supported about 1000 warriors. This was almost as big as the Viking settlement at Dublin. The Vikings used draw up the longboats on the bank inside the fort which was D-shaped. An inner citadel was heavily fortified. The site was destroyed about 960 by the men of Ossory. The Vikings must have done something really bad to encur the wrath of the Ossory Men. Probably cheated at Hurling.

Well Martin, They made a big deal about switching from Guinness to Murphy's which riled a few publicans. That and a few other incidents including the drunken night of cow tipping in Tullamore and fishing in the Barrow without any Rod licenses culminated in that fateful evening when the Ossory Men gave them a licking./g |
