1480.0. "Wolfstone" by MAIL1::GLENNON () Wed Jun 07 1995 12:46
Got a live listen to a group from Scotland called Wolfstone last Friday
evening in a pub called Sam McGuire's in the Bronx, NY. They have a few
albums out on Green Linnet and apparently are on their second North
American tour. The tour details I had (from the record company)
indicated it was a short tour, only about 7/8 dates but did include
WolfTrap in Vienna, Va over the Memorial Day weekend.
Anyway, found the group to be very talented and entertaining sort of a
rock version of the Tannahill Weavers or the Battlefield Band. I
brought along my brother-in-law who's not Irish or Scottish and not at
all into Celtic music and he was also favorably impressed, likening
them somewhat to the American group Kansas (from the 70's) and actually
enjoying the bagpipe accompanyment that comprises about 40% of their
material. Unfortunately, the crowd was not large as this was the
weekend after Memorial Day and Comhaltas had their Fleadh
scheduled the following two days for the NY branch which featured
Moving Cloud at their Saturday night ceili.
It would be nice to hear this group get some more airplay on the local
Celtic radio programs.
