1426.0. "Imminent Loyalist Ceasefire" by AYOV20::MRENNISON (Modern Life Is Rubbish) Thu Oct 13 1994 04:05

Following a meeting in the Maze prison between Loyalist prisoners and
senior Loyalist politicians, hopes are high that the Loyalist
terrorists the UDA/UVF and the UFF will announce a ceasefire.

If this does happen, another enormous step towards peace will have been
    taken.

It would appear (to me) that they are convinced that the IRA ceasefire
is for real. Perhaps the government will now also accept it's permanence.

All we require now is for both sets of terrorists to stop kneecappings,
punishment beatings, intimidation, drug-running and racketeering. Then
they can truly claim "a permanent cessation of violence".

The UVF and UFF have announced a ceasefire from midnight tonight,
dependant upon the duration of the IRA ceasefire ("We won't fire if you
don't"). The INLA are expected to announce a ceasefire soon.
Ian Paisley welcomes the move, but is opposed to paramilitaries from
either side being part of negotiations. Gerry Adams also welcomes the
move and has called on the Government to speed up the peace process.
John Major says he won't be rushed, but is also happy about the ceasefire.

They were reporting earlier this week that the Government will shortly
announce that they believe the IRA truce is permanent (next week,
probably). This makes the anticipated announcement more likely.

Well, hopefully with the ceasefire, an integrated police force
can now be created to patrol the areas where kneecappings are
    going on.

The IRA to my knowledge has been very anti drug-running, though
    racketeering is another story.

Indeed, the British govt is today expected to accept the permanence of
    the IRA ceasefire.

    Another big step towards peace.

Sample usages of the word "permanent"

Permanent as in Gerry (I use the same salon as Tom Cruise) Adams' Hairdo

Permanent as in a bored loyalist and Republican terrorist having a pint
    together

Permanent as in the permanent state of vegitation of John Major
