1414.0. "Adieu, El Gringo is downsized (even smaller)" by RUTILE::AUNGIER (Learning to Love Life) Thu Sep 15 1994 21:34
I will be out of here shortly (end September at the latest), I am being
downsized (even smaller than I was) -). I have enjoyed my time here, it has
been a great experience. I have had good and bad moments. I have met wonderful
people, people I will never forget.
Somebody said there is a time for everything. Its my time to move on, on that
famous road to adventure with the unknowns, the ups and downs. I am looking
forward to it. Sometimes it frightens me and other times it excites me.
I wish all of you the best and hope that things in DEC improve.
If you are ever in the Geneva area just give me a call.

After the form feed there are a few little titbits I got somewhere which have
helped me when the going has not been too good.

Humour is an affirmation of dignity, a declaration of man's
superiority to all that befalls him, and you're never a loser
until you quit trying...
Take time
for what's important to you,
for what makes you happiest
Take time
to be with those you love
and share your deepest wish,
most secret dream,
your favourite fantasy.
Take time to look around
at all the gladness
the world can offer-
all of it is yours
if only you take the time
We can live forty days without food,
eight minutes without air,
but about one second without hope.

The only real failure is to quit.

One does not discover new lands
without consenting
to lose sight of the shore.

>Go neiri an bothair leat, Rene
>(May the road rise to meet you)
I don't mean to rutile Rene's farewell note, but I've never understood
this invocation. I do know that, for some of my ancestors, the road
was always rising to meet them -- as they fell face down in the gutter.
What does it mean to the Irish?

| Good Luck Rene .......I'm sure you'll land on your feet whatever you
do.
re -1 . The full saying is "May the road rise with you and the wind
be always at your back and may the Lord hold you in the hollow of His
hand"
To me it is a wish that you get a trouble free ride or a smooth passage
through life . Can't think off hand what the English equivalent would
be .

Denis,
It is a way of wishing one good luck or a safe journey.
