1384.0. "Tourist in Dublin" by AYOV10::KKEARY () Mon May 23 1994 04:18

I have just been introduced to this conference after noting the
following in the GB file. I have scanned through a few notes but not
found anything relevant to my needs. Can anyone help or point me in
    the right direction.

We (myself and my husband) are coming to Dublin at the end of June and
are looking for accommodation. Can anyone recommend Hotels, Guesthouses
that are reasonably priced and near the centre of Dublin.

I am willing to pay up to 30 per night and have noted two hotels out
of the tourirst board brochure - Barry's and Maple. Does anyone know
these or can you recommend somewhere else?

I'd appreciate any info. on Dublin i.e. places to visit, good
pubs/places to eat etc. We have never been to Ireland before.

I have read the "How safe is Dublin?" note - points taken.

    Thanks in advance.

    Kirsty

1384.1Guesthouses in DublinESSB::PBUTLERMon May 23 1994 12:2912
    Kirsty,
Don't know either Hotel but recommend any Bed & Breakfast Guesthouse as
they are family run and regulated by the Irish Tourist Board. Typically
15 per person per night and includes a good breakfast. For a nice
part of Dublin to stay in, I recommend the Ballsbridge area. If you're
arriving in at a reasonable hour and not arriving at the weekend you
can probbaly leave until you get to the airport where there's a Tourist
Information centre. Otherwise book in advance. Here's a sample:
    Aona Guest House 01 6684349, Roxford Lodge 01 6688572, Elgin House 01
    6684497.

    Kirsty,

Give me a call @ ext 3057. I have a brochure detailing places to
stay and prices . The prices will be a bit out of date (1-2yrs) but at
least you'll get the phone numbers .

1384.3I second the B&B recommendation, or for a very good all-suites hotel...OPENED::LIBOVEFelines 'R' UsTue May 24 1994 11:2717
I second the B&B recommendation... but if you want a high-class of hotel (as hotels
in Ireland tend to be overpriced and underserviced), I recommend Stephen's Hall
hotel, which is just off of St. Stephen's Green, a very pretty park, and is very
near to O'Connell Street, Trinity, etc. The hotel is new, has private parking
included, and has lovely suites including kitchen and sitting area (all rooms are
this way). There is also a very very good restaurant, which has live entertainment
of a quiet and enjoyable nature, from local talent. They have weekend specials for
around IEP#60/night, but of course that is subject to change. Off the top of my head
I don't have their phone number, but of course International Information can get it
for you.

If you (or anyone) chooses to stay at Stephen's Hall hotel, and wants to feed back
to the directory of its board, please feel free to contact me - the director is a
friend of mine :)

1384.4Another hotel for youSIOG::BRENNAN_Mfestina lenteThu May 26 1994 09:589

In the hotel scene the best value is probably Jurys of Christ Church at
about 40 pounds per night. I understand that you can put football team
into the room and its still 40 Pounds -ie its for the room not per
    person.

Breakfast is extra. This hotel is also close to Trinity etc. Its also
very close to Christ Church Cathederal and to the Brazen Head (Oldest
    pub in Dublin).

    Re .1

I tried the Aona Guest House @18 pounds per head/night. It was the
PITS. We spent the 1st hour cleaning the room, gave up and booked out.

We then moved to the Roxford Lodge @25 pounds per head/night. I cannot
praise this place highly enough. Excellent service, high standard of
    room etc..., tremendous breakfast.....

Won't go past it when I'm back across.

    	Hi,

I am planning a two day trip from Edingurgh to Dublin. I
will be flying into Prestwick and taking a bus into Dublin.

I would like some ideas of where to stay, close to a good
pub in a safe area. I would like to get to the Guinness
Visitor's Center also. Some pointer would be appreciated.

    	Thanks,

    Andy,

    >I am planning a two day trip from Edingurgh to Dublin. I
    >will be flying into Prestwick and taking a bus into Dublin.

When I last checked Prestwick is in Scotland about 1/2 hours drive
south of Glascow. Are you really taking a bus from Prestwick, Scotland
to Dublin? Just driving from Belfast to Dublin is around 2 hours. Now
you want to add the drive to the Larne ferry, the ferry crossing and
ferry port to Belfast, all on a bus?

If you only have 2 days why not fly directly into Dublin?

I'll leave it to the more uptodate locals to suggest pubs and stays,
although I would suggest Ryan's Pub across the Liffey from the
Guinness Brewery. Nice old pub with great wood work and snugs and the
Guinness is pretty good as well.

    Cheers,
    Paul

Sorry, my error, I am flying out od Edinburgh on Ryanair and I
don't remember the airport's name in Dublin. I am taking a bus
from the airport to Dublin Center. Make more sense?

    Thanks,
