A question for any GAO Noters. I have a friend in the US who is interested in moving to Galway for a few years and open his own business. His area of interest is sports; in US he owns a speciality running show store, also sports massage and therapy for sports injuries. He is also interested in homeopathic medicine. He would like to contact the Galway Chamber of Commerce and also the Small Business Bureau; can someone please post or send me the addresses for those bodies and also any other "body" he should contact to see if his proposal would be financially viable. Thanks in advance. GC

His first stop should probably be the Trade attache at his local Irish consulate or embassy. I'm sure they have lots of glossy brochures and contact addresses. The Industrial Development Agency in Galway is on the Mervue estate, telephone (091) 751111. I can't find the Chamber of Commerce in the phone book--it's helpfully listed in Irish, and the only thing I can think of is Cumman Trachla, which isn't there. Can anybody else help? FWIW and IMO, he'll get a lot more help if he decides to manufacture here as well as retailing, and also have a better chance of doing business. There may be a corner of the market for fancy imports for high-end summer visitors. But the import tax is prohibitive, and he won't be creating that many jobs as a retailer. Helen | |||||
