1380.0. "Clifden Archaeological Site" by TALLIS::DARCY (Alpha Migration Tools) Mon May 09 1994 11:30

    > [from the Emigrant]
    >- Connemara, which was for long thought to be bereft of any significant
    > archaeological remains from early times, has recently yielded a
    > number of interesting prehistoric sites. The most important appears
    > to be a large 5,500-year-old court tomb on the Sky Road five miles
    > west of Clifden. Archaeologist Michael Gibbons is working on this
    > and on what he calls an archaeological park near Cleggan. This
    > encompasses a Ceide Fields type of environment including house sites,
    > tombs, forts and a crannog.

Anyone have any more info on this archaeological find? I.e. what
was in the tomb? Any surprises?

My brother-in-law is a friend of Mick Gibbons', and is going to
work on that dig this summer. I'll be seeing him in July and will find
out all I can then.
