| Or let somebody start an IRELAND_IN_FLAMES conference and take their
battles there.
While I do think a lot of people have blinders on when it comes to the
situation in the island of Erin, we only turn away those who we might
educate when we repeatedly post new notes about each variant of the
"troubles" and then play kick-the-can with it ad nauseum.

The kick-the-can happens in part because there's no attempt to limit the
new topics to those genuinely meriting a new basenote.

Dennis,
The only way the blinders will be removed is by
presenting information on the situation. Now, I don't
think much of the likes of Millar, and his immature
posts, but even they have their place. Namely as
an example of how a British mind works when forced to
face the ugly truth of the occupation in the six
counties.
Now it would be easy to bury our heads and not read
news articles, human rights reports, and the opinions
of the Nationalist community, but then we would only
have a one-sided opinion of the situation.

when you come across with this sort of attitude, may I point out that it
is not surprising that some people have little time for what you have to
say. I get the impression that your goal is not for the future wellbeing of
the Irish people but more of a personal crusade against the British
people. I have yet to see any evidence to refute that view; your
continual belligerence and superior attitude do little other than to
annoy, and inevitably overshadow any point which your posts are attempting
to make, accurate or otherwise.
I'm sorry to say that I doubt that by pointing this out that it will
make the slightest difference, as a great deal of ill feeling has already
built up in here. I won't try to claim that I'm completely blameless, as
I will react negatively to any insult or abuse, though I think that there
is no doubt as to who the main troublemaker in this conference is.
Chris.

At this volume, people will only cover their ears and turn away. Turn
it down or take it elsewhere.

| Noters Beware!
Mark has failed to post a note explaining how his freedom fighting friends
deal with those who voice criticism of their heroic deeds.
Last week, John Fee, SDLP councillor from Crossmaglen questioned the wisdom
of lobbing mortor shells over the houses of his cinstituents at the British
Army post. He also had the gall to question how this might form part of Sinn
Fein's peace efforts.
For his efforts he is now in hospital, having been censored by a group of
heroes with sticks. He sufferred broken ribs, fingers, and a suspected
fractured leg.
SF deny responsibility.
Having spoken to a 'local' over the weekend, their denial is receiving a
sceptical response from the people of Crossmaglen.
...what ever you say, say nothing!

And I have little time for folks who won't read and educate
themselves. If an article by a human rights activists upsets
you, then hit next unseen.
re. .7
Yep, and there are plenty of others who have to live in
Ballymurphy. And there are those who have to live in north
London and have to put up with the PTA, and anti-Irish racism.
re. .8
"Turn it down or take it elsewhere."
Beg pardon! Who died and made you moderator?

re. .10
Here's a new concept for you. Innocent until and if proven
guilty. Unless you have evidence that Sinn Fein or even the
IRA were responsible for this act, why don't you halt with
the accusations.
Any one who reads the news knows who it is that the SDLP
councillors need to fear. That is the loyalist death
squads colluding with the British forces, who have decided
that SDLP councillors are legitimate targets.

| Mark,
I'm not accusing anyone. I'm reporting that the victim is of the belief that
'Republicans' disciplined him; I'm also reporting what a local resident told
me at the weekend (when I visited the North - oops, sorry, there I go again,
meeting people with day to day experience of the North).
What SF actually said was: "we are not responsible ....it is up to the IRA to
speak for itself"
The local IRA denied that they were involved. The general belief is that it
was freelance activity by more zealous members of that organisation.
BTW, I encountered far less anger in the North than in this conference

1356.13 | Community of the "belief" that British forces collude with loyalist death squads | KOALA::HOLOHAN | | Mon Mar 28 1994 14:26 | 18 |
| From IRL-NEWS:
A member of the Royal Irish Regiment has been jailed for four years after
being caught at a UVF swearing-in ceremony.
Private Julian Creaney, whose address was given as C/O RIR Ballykinler, was
one of four men caught at a house in Blenheim Drive in Newtownards.
During the raid the RUC uncovered a broken handgun, a UVF flag, uniforms,
masks, 12 bullets and a hand-written UVF oath. The other men also received
lenient sentences of between four and five years {standard sentence for IRA
membership is, I believe, 7 years--stu}.
The sentences handed out in this case clearly ignore the serious and deadly
reality of collusion between the RIR (UDR) and loyalist killer gangs. In his
judgement, Diplock Judge John Curran chose to ignore the record of UDR/RIR
collusion with loyalist death squads when he called the incident an "exception-
al case".

In all honestly this is really getting out of control..Alot of folk
read this but of late well the aggression shown here leaves alot to be
desired. No problem with any info but if we could keep it to the topic
it belongs in...ie one general NI topic ..it would be more manageable.

Mick,
This stuff doesn't belong in only one note. If we took that approach
then it would be a two note conference. One note for the republic of
Ireland, one note for north east Ireland. Throw in a note for Wales,
and a note for Scotland, and we would have it up to a four note conference.
